Pakistan beat Zimbabwe by 8 wickets

A face saver game for badly beaten Zimbabwean side

  • Zimbabwe’s bowlers are in poor form and none of the bowlers have managed to trouble the Pakistanis
  • Zimbabwe hasn’t won a T20 contest against a major side in more than 12 months and the side is short on confidence
  • Babar Azam is looking in great form and has scored fifties in both the games and this strengthens Pakistan’s batting

The T20 series has so far played on expected lines and the Pakistanis have registered two easy wins to take the series 2-0 with one game to go. If the visitors did manage to put up some challenge in the first game they completely surrendered in the last one going down by 8 wickets managing to put up only 134 runs on the board on a good batting surface. They will need to come up with a more aggressive approach to win here.

Zimbabwean side has problems on many fronts. They have a legacy issue where they have never won a game against the Pakistanis in this format. Their bowling attack completely looks out of place at the moment and doesn’t threaten the hosts. Pakistan would like to make a clean sweep here and avoid the embarrassment of the ODI series where they were complacent and lost the last game.

Pakistan Preview

Babar Azam would be happy with the clinical win his side registered in the 2nd game to pocket the series. Going into the final game of the Azam would be looking for another professional performance from his side which will help them gain confidence before the tough tours abroad in the coming months.

Fakhar Zaman will be looking to hit form in this game after two failures while his opening partner Azam looks in great form. Haider Ali did well in the last game and shall carry that confidence forward. In Mohammad Hafeez and Khushdil Shah the side has a strong middle order. Mohammad Rizwan, Faheem Ashraf and Wahab Riaz can strike the ball hard and make this a formidable batting line-up.

Bowlers make a strong comeback in the last game after they took bit of hammering in the first game. Mohammad Hasnain and Haris Rauf look good with the new ball and Faheem Ashraf too did well in the last game. With Usman Qadir and Wahab Riaz also bowling well they have the attack to take on Zimbabwe’s struggling batsmen.

Pakistan Predicted Playing XI:

Babar Azam (c), Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Khushdil Shah, Faheem Ashraf, Wahab Riaz, Usman Qadir, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Hasnain

Zimbabwe Preview

Chamu Chibhabha’s side went from poor to worse in the two games. It was a complete surrender from the team in the last game where their batsmen put up a poo show on a placid wicket.  As the side ends yet another disappointing tour the captain would be looking for a better show from his players.

Chamu Chibhabha and Brandon Taylor will have to stitch together a big partnership opening the batting for the side. Sean Williams and Wesley Madhevere have done well and the side would have huge expectations from them. Ryan Burl played a good knock in the last game he will have to use the long handle well along with Sikandar Raza and Elton Chigumbura who will be playing his last game for Zimbabwe.

The bowling attack has looked toothless so far on this tour and Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava need to rise up to the challenge with the new ball. Donald Tiripano, Tendai Chisoro and Raza have been expensive so far and together they will need to come up with a good show here.

Zimbabwe Predicted Playing XI:

Chamu Chibhabha (c), Brendan Taylor (wk), Sean Williams, Wesley Madhevere, Sikandar Raza, Ryan Burl, Elton Chigumbura, Tendai Chisoro, Donald Tiripano, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava

Weather Conditions

It will be clear skies over Rawalpindi on November 10 and we shall see the temperatures drop down sharply towards the end of the game. Bowlers have found it difficult to bowl on this surface so far and the side batting first would have to eye a score in excess of 170 runs in this game.

Venue Details

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium has a flat track and this makes it easy for the batsmen to score runs who are also aided by the fast outfield at this venue. It is a tough wicket for the fast bowlers and they need to stick to a good line. Spinners have enjoyed good record here as the ball takes sharp turn on this surface.

Toss: To Bowl

In both the games played so far in the series the side batting second has gone on to win the game. Dew has been a major factor that has made bowling tough in the second innings. The captains should have no hesitation at the toss and opt to bowl first these conditions.

Zimbabwean side doesn’t inspire much confidence going into this game and they have to make lot of improvement here to win against a confident Pakistani line-up. They will need to improve the pace of their scoring which was a problem in the last match. The hosts on the other hand look in the right kind of momentum and have played well in both the games. They will definitely start as favorites to win this contest.
