We are into the final round of league games in the Indian Premier League 2022. The 64th game would see the Punjab Kings take on the Delhi Capitals in what is a very important game for both teams. They come having won their previous games. While Delhi Capitals defeated the Rajasthan Royals, the Punjab Kings came up with a brilliant performance against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. 

Delhi Capitals have held an upper hand in this rivalry over the past four years and have won five out of seven games with one earlier this season. Both teams have had their problems with consistency and more so in the case of Punjab Kings. However, a loss here would end all their hopes of making it to the playoffs. Agarwal would expect a determined effort from his players as they fight for their place in the tournament. 

Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow make a formidable opening pair and they would look to set up a good partnership. The middle order has been inconsistent through the side would be happy to have Liam Livingstone back in form. He must combine with Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Agarwal. Jitesh Sharma, Harpreet Brar and Rishi Dhawan add to the side’s depth, and they will have to live by the challenge. 

Arshdeep Singh has looked good, and he will look to bowl tight spells with Harpreet Brar sharing the new ball. Kagiso Rabada has shown his class in the last few games, and he must deliver for the side to win. Rahul Chahar has looked ordinary and has allowed batsmen to score easy runs. He will have an important role in the middle overs along with Rishi Dhawan.

Delhi Capitals Preview

It was just the kind of performance that Rishabh Pant’s side needed. They registered an 8-wicket win against the Rajasthan Royals in the last game to move up to the 5th place on the points table. It was a good display with the bat from the side. They had defeated the Punjab Kings earlier in the season and shall take confidence from that. However, the side hasn’t won two consecutive games so far this year and they would look to avoid that here. 

Srikar Bharat must do well in this game, and he has to support David Warner opening the batting with Warner look in great touch. Mitchell Marsh put his poor form behind to play a match winning knock against Rajasthan and this would add to his confidence. Rishab Pant and Lalit Yadav add to the side’s strength in the middle order, and they have good hitters to follow in Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur. 

Anrich Nortje must find his form and bowl well at the start of the game with Chetan Sakariya who comes here after a good show. Kuldeep Yadav has been consistent with his form and the side would expect him to trouble Punjab’s strong batting line-up. Marsh, Axar Patel and Thakur shall have important roles to play as their opponents have shown good form with the bat.

Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy is a small ground and has a good batting surface. The fast outfield also adds to the advantage of the batsmen as they can play on the up and score runs here. It is one of the toughest venues for the fast bowlers as there is nothing in this surface for them. Spinners do well as the dry wicket makes the ball grip and turn sharply.

We have seen successful run chases at this venue, and this has made it extremely difficult for the side batting first to set a score. There is some juice on the surface early in the game that helps bowlers. Hence the side winning the toss here would have no hesitation in inviting the opposition to bat first.
