Pretoria Capitals will be back to Centurion for their return game against Joburg Super Kings who handed Parnell’s side their first defeat of SA20. With such a deep batting lineup where all-rounder Wayne Parnell comes in at number 8, a 169-runs target should have been a comfortable chase for the Capitals.
In their previous games, Capitals had scored 216-6 and 193-6 batting first with Will Jacks, Phil Salt, Theunis de Bruyn, and Parnell being among the top impact players in the batting lineup.
Joburg Super Kings lost two consecutive games after they got off to a winning start in SA20. In their first home game of the season, the Super Kings stopped the losses from turning into a losing streak.
Before their win over Pretoria in the last game, Joburg scored 105-9 and 81-10 batting first against MICT and Paarl respectively. Though Leus du Plooy and Reeza Hendricks helped them post 168 runs against the Capitals at home, the rest of the batting order continued to fail.
The first defeat should not be a huge disappointment for Pretoria Capitals given there are many positives to take from the match. The right-arm fast bowler Eathan Bosch picked 3 for 12 in his 3 Overs while opener Phil Salt got off to a flying start once again.
Jacks and Salt scored 30 off 19 balls for the first wicket. James Neesham continued to score at an impressive strike rate as he hit 3 sixes in his innings.
What they lacked was a good finish from their key players. It was the first time the Capitals were chasing a score in SA20. Now that they have been in such a situation, the roles of batters in a run-chase should be clearer.
If there is a major concern in this side, it must be the current form of Rilee Rossouw, a big name in T20 cricket, who comes in at number 3. Considering the strike rates of most of the top and middle-order batsmen, it is clear that Pretoria Capitals have adopted an outright aggressive approach to their batting.
This will help them put the pressure back on the bowling side and get the upper hand in the game. Neesham and Dadswell should be in the finisher’s role and while the skipper may not be reliable with the bat, he surely can hit the long ball.
In the bowling department, watch out for Nortje, Parnell, and Pretorius to make a big impact.

Donavon Ferreira marked a brilliant start for the Joburg Super Kings with his unbeaten knock of 82 runs off 40 balls in their first SA20 match.
The others in the top and middle order had failed to get going that day. But it was just the beginning of a new league. One couldn’t gauge whether the batsmen were really out of touch or just trying to acclimatize to the conditions.
But the scores of 81 all-out and 105-9 in the subsequent matches made it clear that there were troubles in the batting lineup. Even in their recent win, Reeza Hendricks’s 45 off 50 balls is a sign of worry for Faf du Plessis.
Hendricks opened the innings alongside the skipper who scored at a much faster rate to set the Super Kings on track to a comeback. At number 3, Leus du Plooy scored 75 off 40 balls that included 5 sixes. This was the most impactful performance of the innings that led Joburg to 168 runs total.
Nevertheless, the batting issues still remain. A rather cautious approach from Reeza followed by failures of Ferreira and Shepherd to finish things off would have cost Super Kings another match.
Apart from Lues du Plooy, the credit for the recent win goes to the bowlers who restricted an in-form Pretoria. Aaron Phangiso, Alzarri Joseph, and Coetze will be the key bowlers to watch out for. Romario Shepherd is also crucial in the bowling department and can make significant contributions as he did in the last game.

The pitch offers a great balance between the bat and the ball. Initially, the pacers can get a lot out of the surface and later on, as the batsmen are settled, they can play their strokes freely and score big. The weather will be mostly sunny in Centurion on the match day with a high of 20 degrees Celsius.
SuperSport Park in Centurion will be hosting its second SA20 match of the season. Pretoria Capitals won the previous game here after scoring 216 runs batting first. The average 1st innings score in T20Is at this venue is 177 runs while in the domestic T20s, it is 156 runs. The team batting first would need at least 180+ to have a chance of winning at this ground.
In the domestic T20s, teams bowling first clearly have an edge as far as the stats are concerned with 27 wins from 43 matches. Though Pretoria Capitals won their last match here batting first, the chasing team managed to score 170+. That is a sign of how difficult it will be for the bowlers to defend a total at this ground.
This will be the second match between these two teams within 24 hours. This could affect the performances on both sides. Nevertheless, considering the current form and issues in both teams, Pretoria Capitals seem to have an edge in this contest along with the home advantage. Joburg Super Kings pack a strong overall squad with a deep batting lineup and on their best day, can outplay any side in this tournament. However, at the moment, it is the Pretoria Capitals that have the upper hand in this game and will be the favourites in our match prediction.
Our prediction is for Pretoria Capitals to win
