After 63 exciting games, we are into the final of the Big Bash League 2021-22. In a repeat of last year’s final, the Perth Scorchers would be up against the Sydney Sixers. It will be the fifth time the two sides would meet in the finals having won twice each. The Scorchers topped in the league stages and defeated Sixers in the Qualifier to enter the finals. The Sixers come here with a thrilling win against the Adelaide Strikers in the Challenger game.

The Perth Scorchers would enjoy an upper hand in this contest having won all three games against the Sydney Sixers this season. The Sixers have struggled with the form of their bowlers in most games and nearly let the last game slip out of their hands. They have won the last two editions of the tournament and would be eying a hattrick of wins here. With the best two sides in the title decider, we should have an exciting game on our hands.

Perth Scorchers Preview

Ashton Turner has led a good campaign this season. They topped the points table during the league stages and come into this game after a 48-run win against the Sixers. As the side goes into the final Turner would be looking to win a record 4th title for the franchise and end their long wait since the 2016-17 season. They had lost to Sixers in the finals last year and Turner would look to settle scores.

Openers Kurtis Patterson and Josh Inglis are in excellent form, and this would add to the confidence of the side in this game. They have a strong middle order in Mitchell Marsh, Colin Munro, and Ashton Turner and all of them would aim to set the perfect platform for the side. In Laurie Evans and Ashton Agar, they have good hitters of the ball, and the pair shall look to accelerate the scoring.

The return of Jhye Richardson has strengthened the bowling for the side and he would look to strike early sharing the new ball with Jason Behrendorff. Andrew Tye has had an ordinary tournament by his standards and shall look to do well in this game. With Agar, Turner, and Peter Hatzoglou in the mix, they have the bowling attack to take them to the 4th title.

Perth Scorchers Predicted Playing XI:

Ashton Turner (c), Kurtis Patterson, Josh Inglis (wk), Mitchell Marsh, Colin Munro, Laurie Evans, Ashton Agar, Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Peter Hatzoglou

Sydney Sixers * Preview

Moises Henriques’ side made a thrilling entry into the final defeating the Adelaide Strikers by 4 wickets in the Challenge game. The defending champions won off the last ball of the game thanks to a brilliant knock by Hayden Kerr. It would be a tough challenge against Perth Scorchers against whom they have lost thrice in the season. Henriques shall want to put those losses behind and aim for their 4th title and third in a row.

Hayden Kerr who stepped in to replace Josh Phillippe made an unbeaten 98 in the last game. But Phillippe’s absence is a big loss for the side. Kerr would have to set up a good opening wicket stand with Justin Avendano. Henriques would have to play an important role in the middle order with Daniel Hughes and Daniel Christian. Sean Abbott played well in the last game, and he adds to the strength down the order with Ben Dwarshuis and Jordan Silk.

Their bowlers have been in poor form in the last few games and the side would expect early wickets from Steve O’Keefe and Abbott given the strength Scorchers have with the bat. Kerr would have to bowl tight lines in this game along with Nathan Lyon. Dwarshuis and Christian have failed to strike the right areas so far and the side would expect to see better performances from them in this game.

Sydney Sixers * Predicted Playing XI:

Moises Henriques (c), Justin Avendano, Hayden Kerr, Daniel Hughes, Jordan Silk, Daniel Christian, Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, Jay Lenton (wk), Nathan Lyon, Steve O’Keefe

Weather Conditions

Weatherman predicts overcast skies over Melbourne on January 28, and we might see rain interruptions during the game. The wicket is expected to be flat as we have seen in most games that have been played this season. There is little on this surface for the bowlers, especially the spinners. The side batting first would be happy to put 170 runs on the board in this big game.

Venue Details

Docklands Stadium, Melbourne is a good venue for the batsmen, and we have seen some of the biggest scores of the season here. The flat surface and the fast outfield allow the batsmen to score runs easily here. There is some assistance for the fast bowlers early in the game. Spinners have generally struggled here as the wicket is not known for offering much turn to them.

Toss: To Bat

10 games have been played at this venue in this edition and on seven occasions the side batting first has registered wins. We have seen big scores being set up at this venue and the wicket has been good to bat on. The side winning the toss here should have no hesitation in batting first in this high-pressure contest and putting up a big score on the board.

Sydney Sixers comes here to defend their title and the side would be under pressure. Though the side comes here with an exciting win against the Adelaide Strikers the form of their bowlers would be worrying. They must bowl better lines in this game given the kind of batting they would be up against. Perth Scorchers have been in sublime form this season and won all the games they played against the Sixers. This would make them favorites to win this game and grab the title.
