It’s the return fixture being held in back-to-back days. Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers will be playing their second straight game at the same venue and also at the same time.

While the Scorchers have climbed up to number three on the points table, the Sixers have slipped to fourth. After an indifferent start, Perth Scorchers have picked up pace as the tournament has progressed. They have won five out of their last six games and four of them have been against the trend – that is, batting first. A couple of them have been tight wins as well. Their only loss in the last six games came against table-toppers Brisbane Heat when they were comprehensively beaten.

Apart from that, the Scorchers have been very good and another win should seal a top-four spot. The absence of a star player and skipper Ellyse Perry has had an adverse effect on the Sydney Sixers. They have now lost three games in a row. Two of those have been by big margins as well. The Sixers had six wins from eight games and now they need to win at least two out of their next three games to qualify for the knockouts.

Perth Scorchers Women Preview

It’s largely been on the back of the bowlers that the Perth Scorchers have won most of their games. They have defended some lowish scores as well. Only one bowler who has bowled more than five overs has an economy of more than 8. Kim Garth and Heather Graham have led the charge with the ball. They have been brilliant. Garth has taken 12 wickets while Graham has 13. The others like Nicole Bolton and Nat Sciver have chipped in well too.

With the bat, it’s been the story of three international superstars. Wicket-keeper bat Amy Ellen Jones is leading the run charts. She has scored 346 runs in the tournament so far. Her opening partner and skipper Meg Lanning is not too far behind either. Lanning has amassed 338 runs at an average of 37.55. Sciver has not only contributed with the ball, but she has also been very good with the bat too – 282 runs at an average of 35.25.

The major disappointment and slight worry would be the form of opener Georgia Redmayne and Nicole Bolton. While the latter has scored just 102 runs, Redmayne as 79 runs in seven innings.

Perth Scorchers Women Predicted Playing XI:

Amy Ellen Jones (wk), Meg Lanning (c), Georgia Redmayne, Natalie Sciver, Nicole Bolton, Heather Graham, Chloe Piparo, Kim Garth, Jemma Barsby, Taneale Peschel, Samantha Betts

Sydney Sixers Women Preview

The Sydney Sixers batting has been affected in Ellyse Perry’s absence. The star all-rounder had scored 469 runs at an average of 93.80 in this tournament but is ruled out at least till the knockouts start. Alyssa Healy started this tournament with a bang but her last three scores read – 4, 10 and 2. In the absence of Perry, it is Healy who needs to step up and take charge.

Marizanne Kapp has been in good form but she will need some support from the other end as well. Thus, the likes of Ashleigh Gardner and Dane van Niekerk need to deliver as they’ve been under-par this season.

With the ball, it’s been all Kapp as well. She has 14 wickets in this season and has an economy of 6.10. She has had some support with the likes of Sarah Aley and Dane van Niekerk chipping in. Both of them have picked up nine wickets each and have also contained the runs. The bowling has done decently and it’s the batting that needs to step up.

Sydney Sixers Women Predicted Playing XI:

Alyssa Healy (c & wk), Hollie Armitage, Ashleigh Gardner, Erin Burns, Marizanne Kapp, Dane van Niekerk, Lauren Smith, Maddy Darke, Sarah Aley, Hayley Silver-holmes, Stella Campbell

Weather Conditions

It is an early (10 AM local time) start and the weather is expected to be perfect for cricket. The temperatures will gradually rise throughout the day and it is expected to be sunny throughout the day as well. The pitch at the Lilac Hill Park in Perth is also expected to be a good one to bat on and the batters should enjoy the ball coming on to the bat.

Venue Details

The Lilac Hill Park in Perth was known to host Lilac Hill Festival Cricket matches every year. However, it’s been more than a decade since that has been stopped. It is a venue that is a regular in Women’s Big Bash. It hosted three games last year and is scheduled to host a total of four games this year.

Toss: To Bowl

It’s been a tournament where most teams have wanted to bowl first. 24 games have been won by teams chasing so far. But in the last few games, the trend is starting to change as well. In the last 17 games (until the Perth-Sydney game – Match 43), 10 were won by teams batting first. It will be a tricky call but as is the usual trend in white-ball cricket, teams will mostly field first should they win the toss.

Sydney Sixers seem to have gone into a slump after star all-rounder and skipper Ellyse Perry was ruled out due to a shoulder injury. Perth Scorchers have been very good in the recent past and have momentum on their side. It will be the Meg Lanning-led side that will go into this game as favorites and will be looking to make it two in two days against the Sixers.
