Queensland Preview

This Sheffield Shield campaign for Queensland has been a rollercoaster thanks to a mix of draws, narrow defeats, and morale-boosting victories in the last two games. As they prepare to face the defending champions Western Australia in Brisbane, Queensland currently sit third on the points table with 27.75 points, trailing behind South Australia and Victoria.

The season started for Queensland with a series of draws and losses. After the draw in the first game, they suffered a big loss against South Australia by 129 runs in the second game. Another defeat against table toppers Victoria after a couple of draws turned out to be a big blow for them in this campaign. By the 5 games, Queensland had 3 draws and 2 defeats to show.

Queensland turned the tide with a 23-run victory over Victoria to register their first win of the tournament. Mark Steketee was the man of the match, who played a couple of handy knocks and took three wickets each in both innings. This was followed by yet another win against the New South Wales by a comfortable margin of 188 runs. This was Queensland's best performance of the season so far. Jack Clayton scored a century in the first innings and remained 76 not-out in the second to receive the Player of the Match award.

In batting, contributions from Jack Clayton and Matt Renshaw have been essential for Queensland to be in this position at this stage of the tournament. The bowling is majorly led by Mark Steketee and Mitchell Swepson. Facing the defending champion Western Australia with this kind of form will suit Queensland. Their previous encounter against Western Australia in this season ended in a draw. This is a crucial match for Queensland and with the form they are in, they would fancy a win against the defending champions.

Western Australia Preview

As the Sheffield Seals season is coming to the end, the defending champions Western Australia find themselves in a precarious position. With only three games to go, Western Australia are currently at the bottom of the table with 24.91 points, which includes two wins and two losses. The good thing is they still stand a chance to reach the final, and this game against Queensland is a must-win game for Western Australia.

Western Australia started the season with a draw against their current opponents, Queensland. After that, they registered a couple of victories against Tasmania and played like champions. The stage looked set for them to reach yet another final in the Sheffield Shield Trophy. However, in the next four games, they have managed just one draw and three losses, thus resulting in their position at the bottom of the table.

Western Australia's biggest defeat game against New South Wales in their sixth game. Batting first, Western Australia scored 211 runs but conceded 463 runs to New South Wales in their first innings. Brody Couch took three wickets for 66 runs. Western Australia were folded for just 184 in the second innings to hand to lose the game by an innings and 68 runs.

In batting, Hilton Cartwright has been a standout performer with 725 runs over 10 matches with an average of 40.28, followed by wicketkeeper Josh Inglis who has 629 runs in 6 matches at an average of 62.9.  Bowling has been led by Cameron Gannon with 38 wickets in the 9 matches followed by spinner Corey Rocchiccioli having 35 wickets in the last 9 games. A crucial game coming up for the defending champions. It will be interesting to see if they can bounce back and still be in contention to win the Sheffield Shield Trophy this year.

Toss: To Bat

The conditions at Brisbane are excellent for both batting and bowling. A total of 52 tests have ended in outright results at this venue, with team batting and fielding first winning an equal 26 tests each. In a multi-day match, it is better to avoid chasing in the fourth innings when the conditions are even. The team winning the toss should bat first here and try to put on a big score.

Queensland are currently in third place in the points table, whereas Western Australia are struggling at the bottom of the table, showing inconsistency in both batting and bowling. Queensland's recent form and home advantage make them the favorites. Western Australia haven't had a victory in their last four games. We believe Queensland, with their balanced squad and winning momentum, have a slight advantage over Western Australia in this game.

We predict that Queensland will defeat Western Australia.
