Indian Premier League 2022 enters its most important week and the 49th game between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings would decide the fate of both sides. CSK did well in the last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad to keep their hopes alive for a berth in the next would. RCB continue to slide downwards after they lost against the Gujarat Titans in the last game.
The Chennai Super Kings have had an excellent record against RCB and won the last eight out of ten games between the two teams. Though CSK has struggled this season with Dhoni back at the helm, we can expect them to show new enthusiasm. RCB have lost the last three games and it will be interesting to see if they can arrest this downward slide.
Three losses in a row have dented the campaign for Faf du Plessis’ side. They have fallen to the 5th spot on the points table after their 6-wicket loss to the Gujarat Titans in the last game. The side failed to accelerate at the right time and fell at least 15 runs short after a decent start. They must win this game to improve their position and remain in the hunt for a berth in the playoffs.
Virat Kohli made runs in the last game and this is excellent news for the team. He must provide a solid start with du Plessis. In the middle order, Glenn Maxwell and Rajat Patidar did well, and the side would expect them to build partnerships with Dinesh Karthik. They would hope to see runs from Shahbaz Ahmed, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Mahipal Lomror as CSK’s bowling isn’t looking in great shape.
Mohammad Siraj has bowled well in the last few games, and he will need to strike early with Maxwell as CSK’s top order was brilliant in the last game. Harshal Patel hasn’t had a great season. Hasaranga will have a very important role in the middle overs along with Ahmed. The side would need better performance from Josh Hazlewood in this game.

MS Dhoni replacing Ravindra Jadeja as skipper ignited a fresh spark for the defending champions as they rode home to a 13-run win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, a berth in the playoffs is a distant dream for the side that has won only 3 games in the season. They have an excellent record against RCB, and Dhoni shall look to leverage it and win by a big margin.
It was a dream start for the side in the last game where Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad set up a 182-run stand. A similar start here would do a world of good to the side’s confidence. Ambati Rayudu, Jadeja, and Robin Uthappa will need to build partnerships in the middle order. With Dhoni, Mitchell Santner, and Dwayne Bravo to follow the side has good firepower in the batting department.
The side would need to work on its bowling as they nearly lost the last game after having 202 runs on the board. Mukesh Choudhary has looked good, and he will need support from Simarjeet Singh with the new ball. Bravo coming in would add strength to this attack. Jadeja has bowled well, and the side would like to see tight spells in this game from Maheesh Theekshana and Santner.

The conditions are expected to be warm and humid in Pune on May 04. The wicket would be flat, and the ball is expected to hit the ball hard allowing batsmen to play their strokes freely. Bowlers are likely to have a tough time on this wicket. A score of 190 runs would be a good total on this surface.
Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune is a batsman’s paradise where we have seen big scores. The wicket has very little for the fast bowlers and batsmen are able to score runs easily on this track. It has been a good venue for the spinners who are willing to toss the ball and test batsmen.
Though we have seen the last few games being won by sides batting first, the wicket has always been a great venue to chase scores. Batting conditions ease in the second half of the game. Hence, the side winning the toss here shouldn’t have any hesitation in opting to bowl first.
Royal Challengers Bangalore have gone back to the old habit of losing consecutive games. The side needs to get its campaign back on track after losing badly in the last three games. Their batting line-up would need to deliver. Chennai Super Kings did well in the last game but have been in poor form. However, their excellent record against RCB in the past shall put them slightly ahead in this game.
