It is a do-or-die game for the Royal Challengers Bangalore as they take on the Gujarat Titans 67th game of the Indian Premier League 2022. The Royal Challengers went down against the Punjab Kings in their last game and must win their last league game for a place in the playoffs. The Titans are comfortably placed at the top of the points table and defeated Chennai Super Kings coming into this game.
The Gujarat Titans have won 10 out of the 13 games the side has played. They are into the playoffs and hence the side wouldn’t feel any pressure in this contest. The Royal Challengers had lost against the Titans earlier by a big margin and this would be on their minds. With their backs against the wall, it remains to be seen if RCB has the spirit to defeat the strongest side in this tournament.
The 54-run loss against the Punjab Kings has hurt Faf du Plessis’ side badly. Though they are placed 4th on the points table they can’t afford to relax. They have three other sides breathing around their neck and their poor run rate doesn’t offer them any room to relax. A loss might end their hopes of making it to the next round. The side would have to produce its best show as they take on the strongest side against whom they had lost previously.
Virat Kohli has had a miserable season by his standards and the side would need him to strike gold in this game as he openings the batting with du Plessis. The middle-order trio of Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell, and Mahipal Lomror must convert their starts as this has been an issue for the team. Dinesh Karthik has played well in the role of a finisher, and he will have to add quick runs with Wanindu Hasaranga.
Their bowling attack hasn’t been in the best of form and the side would expect a good start from Maxwell and Josh Hazlewood. Hasaranga has been the only bowler to have shown consistency and the side would need a grand show from him against Gujarat’s strong batting line-up. Harshal Patel, Mohammad Siraj, and Shahbaz Ahmed must strike form for the side to win here.

The Titans have been the team to watch in this tournament. Hardik Pandya has led the new franchise well and they are already into the Qualifiers. Their bowlers did an excellent job in the last game and helped the side to a 7-wicket win against the Chennai Super Kings. This is the last league game for the side and Pandya would like his players to build momentum by winning this game ahead of the playoffs.
Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill have been star performers for the team, and they would aim to set up a good opening wicket stand. In the middle order Pandya has done well and he would look to add runs with Matthew Wade. David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, and Rashid Khan have played good knocks down the order, and this has brought in the X-Factor to the side’s performance this season.
Mohammad Shami has been among the best bowlers this season and the side would like to see an impressive spell from him and Pandya with the new ball. Rashid Khan has made good use of his experience and troubled the best batsmen. Alzarri Joseph played a good hand with the ball in the last game after poor performances in previous games. The side would also expect to see good efforts from Yash Dayal and Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore.

There would be odd clouds over the skies of Mumbai on May 19, but we expect a warm and humid evening. The wicket has been flat, and this has allowed batsmen to play their strokes easily with little on this surface for the bowlers. The side batting first would need 180 runs on the board to apply pressure on the opposition.
Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai is a batsman’s dream venue as the wicket here is flat and the outfield lightning fast. Batsmen have scored runs on the up with the ball coming onto the bat nicely. It is one of the toughest venues for the fast bowlers with nothing on the surface for them. Spinners have enjoyed more success as the wicket is conducive to spin bowling.
In the last five games played here the side batting first has won just one game. It has been a tough venue to defend a total as the wicket tends to ease as the game progresses. The side winning the toss would like to have a target score in mind and hence it would have no hesitation in opting to bowl first.
Royal Challengers Bangalore cannot afford to lose this game. Their star players Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell haven’t fared well in the season. They will need to deliver the goods here for the side to win and make it to the playoffs. On the other hand, the Gujarat Titans can relax and play carefree cricket. They have most of their players in good form and this would make them favorites to win this contest.
