Chennai Super Kings would look to bow out with their heads high as they take on the Rajasthan Royals in the 68th game of the Indian Premier League 2022. The defending champions have had a nightmarish season and come here with a big loss against the Gujarat Titans in their last game. Rajasthan on the other hand defeated the Lucknow Super Giants in the last game and has moved to the 2nd place on the points table.
The Chennai Super Kings have won just four games this season and most of their key players have underperformed. Their bowling attack has been weak and hasn’t threatened the opponents. The Royals have their batting line-up in good form and the side would like to use it to their advantage. It will be interesting to see if CSK can come up with a special show in this game and defeat a confident Rajasthan Royals.
Sanju Samson’s side sits in the 2nd place on the points table after their 24-run win against the Lucknow Super Giants. The win would have added to the side’s confidence as it came against one of the best teams in the tournament. They would look to repeat the same kind of performance in their last league game. A win in this game would save them from playing the Eliminator and that would be on the mind of the side.
Jos Buttler has been the best batsman in the tournament, and he would look to set up a good opening wicket stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Samson has stood like a rock in the middle order, and he would look to anchor the innings with Devdutt Padikkal and Riyan Parag. James Neesham and Ravichandran Ashwin can strike the ball hard and they would look for the boundaries in the final overs.
Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna did well with the new ball in the last game and this is good news for the team as they had struggled previously. Yuzvendra Chahal has been a tough nut to crack for the batsmen and the side would like to see him excel in this game. Obed McCoy did well on his return to the side and he would look to check the flow of runs in the middle overs along with Ashwin who brings lots of experience to this attack.

The defending champions haven’t been able to inspire confidence. They have just four games this season and currently sit 9th on the points table. The side produced another ordinary performance in the last game where they went down against the Gujarat Titans by 7 wickets. As MS Dhoni leads the side in the last game of the season, he would like a good show and restore lost pride with a win here.
Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad haven’t been consistent, and this has hurt the side’s performance. They will have to set up a good show at the start of the innings. Moeen Ali, N Jagadeesan, and Shivam Dube must play important knocks in the middle order as their failure to convert has been a big issue for the team. Dhoni and Mitchell Santner will have to do the heavy lifting towards the end of the innings.
Mukesh Choudhary has done well for the side this season and he must get them early wickets sharing the new ball with Simarjeet Singh. Santner and Moeen Ali will enjoy these conditions and they must put pressure on Rajasthan’s powerful batting line-up. The side would also expect tight bowling from Matheesha Pathirana and Prashant Solanki in this game.

We expect to see a warm and humid evening in Mumbai on May 20 though there would be some clouds in the sky. The wicket has become slightly slower in the last few games played here but it is still great for batting. A score near the 175-run mark would be on the mind of the side batting first.
Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai had a good batting surface. The wicket is flat, and the ball comes onto the bat nicely allowing the batsmen to play their strokes freely. Fast bowlers have struggled as there hasn’t been any lateral movement for them from the surface. Spinners do well as the ball can occasionally stop and surprise the batsmen.
It is late in the season, and we have seen the pitches getting slightly slower, and setting up a score batting first has been a challenge. Sides chasing the score have the advantage of knowing the target. Hence, we believe the side winning the toss in this game would have little hesitation in opting to bowl first.
Chennai Super Kings are out of contention for the playoffs and the side would have to play for its pride in this contest. Their key players have failed to live up to their reputation and this has hurt the side. Rajasthan Royals have momentum on their side and a batting line-up that has stood up to the challenge and this would make them favorites to win this game.
