The points table in the CSA T20 Challenge 2022-23 is now getting cramped up. While the Titans are sitting pretty at the top with 10 points, three teams in the middle are stuck with 4 points each. The Rocks have 4 points from 2 games at a net run rate of + 0.876. They will next take on the Dolphins on the 21st who are one place below them at the 5th position with 4 points and a net run rate of -0.100.
The Rocks had started the CSA T20 Challenge 2022-23 with a bang by winning their first match against Western Province with ease. After restricting the opposition to 155-7, the Rocks polished off the target in just 16.1 overs with 5 wickets to spare. Janneman Malan top-scored with a sublime 60 off 43 balls. The opener is in terrific form and also smashed an unbeaten 68 off 52 balls in the team’s next match against the Warriors, which they ended up losing by 3 runs. Leus du Plooy and Clyde Fortuin are two other batters who are expected to do well this time. Fortuin’s knock of 43 off 27 balls in the match against Western Province helped the Rocks chase the target down.
In the bowling department, the Rocks have Ferisco Adams who impressed in the last match with figures of 2-20 off 4 overs. Off-spinner Imran Manack is proving to be a reliable option for the team during the middle overs – he has figures of 0-13 in 4 overs and 2-26 in 4 overs in the two matches so far.

The Dolphins’ campaign this year has started in a similar fashion to the Rocks – they lost their first match against Titans by 34 runs but won their next against North West by 30 runs. Their batting appears to be a little thin. In both their matches, the batting unit failed to click together. Opener Grant Roelofsen was the lone warrior in the team’s first match with his knock of 68 off 42 balls when they fell short of the target. In their match against North West, the Dolphins were 70-4 at one stage, but Khaya Zondo (42* off 40 balls) and Jason Smith (34 off 27 balls) helped bail the team out.
The Dolphins’ bowling is their main strength. New ball fast bowler Eathan Bosch has been sensational for them so far, picking up 4 wickets in the two matches at an economy of just 4.12. Ottniel Baartman did a fine job in the last game with a spell of 3-30 of his 4 overs. The team does need a good spinner for the middle overs and perhaps left-arm spinner Bryce Parsons can be the man for them.

The pitch at Senwes Park isn’t exactly a batting paradise. The ball does seam around in the first few overs and the fast bowlers get good bounce too. Batters will have to be a little patient to get used to the wicket.
A thunderstorm is expected in Potchefstroom tomorrow so we might get a shortened game.
The highest total at Senwes Park this season has been 190-6 by the Titans. The average total by the team first at the venue is 156. The team batting first in this match will look to set a target of around 175 runs.
Of the 8 matches played at Senwes Park this season, 3 have been won by the team chasing while 4 have been won by the team batting first (one match was abandoned due to rain). The team winning the toss here is likely to bat second as rain is predicted during the match.
The Rocks and Dolphins had clashed once during the last season of the tournament where the Rocks won by 8 runs. There’s not much to separate the two sides this season. The Rocks have a stronger batting unit while the Dolphins have better bowling strength. On paper, it does look like the Rocks have better overall balance and should be able to prevail.
Expect the Rocks to win this clash.
