This is a do-or-die match for the Proteas. South Africa had looked in great shape until their last game against Pakistan. The 2009 champions, as usual, had a surprise for everyone as they turned the game around dominating the best of South African bowlers in the death overs.

Temba Bavuma would be eager to get his team back to winning ways. While the opposition here isn’t very strong, South Africa will be looking for batting gains.

Even if the Proteas manage a win here, they will also need momentum going ahead in the semis. A bowling attack which has been among the best in T20Is in the last year and this tournament needs some reflection after their recent performance in the death overs.

While the Netherlands don’t have much to play for, they will definitely put their best foot forward to make a statement. Earlier in the tournament, the skipper talked about the need for bigger teams to visit the Netherlands.

This will be a great opportunity for the Netherlands to make their voices heard and their abilities seen against the toughest teams of the World cup.

South Africa Preview

After an impressive win against India, South Africa seemed to be a top contender for the T20 World Cup title. The bowling attack looked lethal and the batting reliable.

There was nothing that could stop South Africa from reaching the finals. And then, Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab Khan put South Africa turned the tables and put the Proteas under pressure.

The two led a comeback for Pakistan taking South African bowlers to the cleaners. Nortje, in spite of finding success, ended up being expensive in his spell and so did Rabada.

These two are key to success for South Africa in the pace department. While there are others like Lungi Ngidi and Wayne Parnell too, the pacers tasked with death overs need to be on their best day when going up against a team with depth in the batting order.

The bowlers finding quick wickets in the powerplay in every game is a big positive for the Proteas. However, they should take a lesson from the recent loss that even after sending half of the opposition back to the pavilion, they can’t just rest and have to stay on top until the last ball is bowled.

3 of the top 4 batsmen will be key for a comeback from South Africa in the batting department. Quinton de Kock, Rilee Rossouw, and Aiden Markram are the in-form and reliable batsmen who’ve delivered for South Africa and other teams in franchise cricket over the years.

South Africa Predicted Playing XI:

Quinton de Kock (wk), Temba Bavuma (c), Rilee Rossouw, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, Tristan Stubbs, Wayne Parnell, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Tabraiz Shamsi

Netherlands Preview

The Netherlands are eliminated from the race to the playoffs. But this is the best of the world stage where the Netherlands can force the world to take them seriously.

Teams like these play very few matches against the top teams which are mostly during world events. No major cricketing nations visit the Netherlands for a tour which includes many games.

This makes the competition quite unfair as teams like the Netherlands can never truly gain valuable experience. In their last T20 World Cup match, Scott Edwards would like his men to give all they can to make it a memorable game.

The likes of Max ODowd, Tom Cooper, and Colin Ackerman will be key players in the batting lineup. The last game saw some changes in the lineup with Bas de Leede, Scott Edwards, and Roelof van der Merwe coming lower down the order at 5, 6, and 7.

This can work really well for the Netherlands in terms of giving the team a good finish. Fred Klaasen, van Meekeren, and Logan van Beek would be eager to capitalize on the Proteas’ recent batting collapse.

The pressure will be on South Africa to win this game. The Netherlands have nothing to lose and can play freely. There are many quality bowlers in this side. Brandon Glover has been consistent lately and is another key player to watch out for in the Netherlands side.

Netherlands Predicted Playing XI:

Stephan Myburgh, Max ODowd, Tom Cooper, Colin Ackermann, Bas de Leede, Scott Edwards (c & wk), Roelof van der Merwe, Logan van Beek, Fred Klaassen, Paul van Meekeren, Brandon Glover

Weather Conditions

The pitch is a well-balanced one that offers help to both batters and bowlers. The pace isn’t like that in Perth, there is still great bounce on offer and batters can play their strokes freely. The weather is expected to be partly cloudy with a high of 26 degrees Celsius.

Venue Details

A great venue for T20 cricket that is host to the Adelaide Strikers in BBL. The average 1st innings score here is 165 runs in domestic T20s and 173 runs in T20 internationals. If the Proteas opt to bat first, a 170 runs total will be enough given their bowling strength.

Toss: To Bat

Teams batting first have won 3 of the 4 games played at this venue in this tournament. The Netherlands won their first game at this venue chasing 120 runs. It is a venue that has seen teams doing well chasing but mostly teams batting first have had the upper hand.

South Africa are one of the top contenders in this World Cup and one loss wouldn’t change that. The recent loss against Pakistan could be a life-saving one as it brought their vulnerabilities to the fore. This match will allow them time to get their plans right and prepare for an even tougher contest in the semi-finals. Scott Edwards has a few good bowlers to rely on but the batters don’t seem to be in great touch to chase down anything above 170 against the Proteas. Overall, South Africa has a huge advantage and will be the favourites in our match prediction.

Our prediction is for South Africa to win the match
