South Australia have won two back-to-back games and after drawing their first match – by 129 runs against Queensland and by 138 runs against Victoria.
Alex Carey tops the batting charts of the season with 452 runs in just 6 innings at an average of 90.40. He has already hit two hundreds and one fifty.
Nathan McSweeney, who missed the last game as he was representing Australia A against India A, should be back for this game, before he joins the national team to make his debut in the Border Gavaskar Trophy starting later this month. McSweeney has been prolific, amassing 291 runs in just 4 innings at 97.
Among the bowlers, watch out for Nathan McAndrew and Lloyd Pope, who have 21 wickets between them this season. Liam Scott is worth backing as well.

New South Wales are still searching for their first win of the season. They have drawn two matches and lost one by 141 runs versus Victoria.
Regular captain Moises Henriques has withdrawn from this game due to a groin injury. Jack Edwards will lead in his absence.
Edwards has impressed in the 3 innings he has played, scoring 140 runs at an average of 70. Another batter to watch is Oliver Davies, who has over 200 runs at an average of 34.
The New South Wales bowling unit looks a little thin. Tanveer Sangha will be the lead spinner and will be handy on this surface. Jack Nisbet and Kurtis Patterson are decent options too.

The pitch at the Karen Rolton Oval is a good one for batting. Like most Australian surfaces, it has good bounce and carry for the seamers. However, the ball comes on at a nice height for batters to hit through the line. Also, since this will be the season's first game at the venue, we expect the wicket to be fresh and favor batters more, although there will be assistance for seamers in the morning sessions.
The
weather in South Australia will be partly cloudy for most of the match,
with chances of rain on the third day disrupting proceedings.
Last season, the highest total posted at the Karen Rolton Oval was
Tasmania’s 381 versus against South Australia. This isn’t a high-scoring
venue, and the team batting first will be looking to set a score of
around 350 runs.
Last season in the Sheffield Shield, both matches played at the Karen Rolton Oval were won by the chasing side. Both teams are hence likely to field first in this game.
New South Wales haven’t managed to beat South Australia even once over the last five Sheffield Shield encounters. They have a couple of in-form batters in their ranks, but South Australia are in terrific form and are coming off two big wins. Looking at the strengths and weaknesses of both sides, we feel South Australia have better balance and are poised to win this encounter.
