Southern Brave Preview

It was a clinical show from James Vince’s side in the last game as they defeated the Welsh Fire by 8 wickets in a high scoring game. The side chased down a big score without dropping any sweat. This was their third victory at home in as many games and Vince would like to maintain a clean record as they take on the formidable Invincibles at the same ground. 

Openers Paul Stirling and Quinton de Kock are looking good, and the side would expect an electrifying start from them in this game. Vince has been among the top run getters this season and adds solidity to this line-up along with Alex Davies and Ross Whiteley. In George Garton and Colin de Grandhomme, they have good finishers to follow in the game.  

Danny Briggs and George Garton will have to bowl tight lines with the new ball. Briggs was good in the last game and will carry that confidence. Tymal Mills has been a consistent performer for the side, and he will have an important role to play in this game.  Jake Lintott, Chris Jordan and Stirling add good strength to this attack.

Oval Invincibles Preview

Sam Billings’ side has made a strong comeback into the tournament after the ordinary start. They have won the last three out of four games to reach the 2nd spot on the points table. The side won a close contest against London Spirit getting over the finishing line with two wickets in hand. They will look to win this game and make it to the next round. 

The side would be expecting a strong start in this game from Will Jacks and Jason Roy as both have been in good form. The middle order must deliver after the failure in the last game and the side would expect runs from the bat of Colin Ingram, Sunil Narine and Billings. Laurie Evans would be confident after his match winning knock in the last game and makes this line-up formidable with Tom Curran and Alex Blake down the order. 

Saqib Mahmood and Reece Topley have done well with the new ball and early wickets would be expected from them. Narine and Tabraiz Shamsi showed their experience with tight bowling in the last game and same would be needed from them against a strong batting line-up that Southern Brave have. Curran and Will Jacks must play the containing role well in this game.

The skies over Southampton would be cloudy on August 16 and we expect to see difficult batting conditions in the early overs of the game. The ball is expected to move in the air, and this will force the batsmen to play cautious game. The side that bats first here would be happy with a score in excess of 150 runs.

Venue Details

The Rose Bowl, Southampton is a good surface to bowl on early in the game and fast bowlers have always generated good movement off the surface and in the air. Batsmen are also able to play their strokes with the ball coming on to the bat once they get their eyes set in. Spinners haven’t been successful as the pitch doesn’t assist them much.
