Scotland registered a 7-run win in the 1st T20 of the 3-match series. In a close game where the balance kept tilting regularly, Scotland did bowl well in the final overs of the game to register the win. However, this wasn’t without a poor show from the hosts. Both the sides would look to iron out their weaknesses and put up a better show in the next game.

Zimbabwe has been in poor form over the last two years and come here with seven losses in their last ten games. This would put added pressure on the side, and it will be interesting to see how they perform. Scotland is staring at a series win and the side would like to take an unassailable lead here.

Scotland Preview

Kyle Coetzer would have mixed emotions after his side’s win in the previous game. They batted poorly and apart from Richie Berrington no other batsmen stood their ground. It was a good effort with the ball that earned the side a 7-run win in the game. As they go into the second game, Coetzer would hope to see better efforts from his batsmen in this game.

Kyle Coetzer and George Munsey didn’t contribute much in the last game and they would need to stay on the crease and build a partnership. In the middle order, Richie Berrington played a gem of a knock but he will need support from Ollie Hairs and Calum MacLeod. Matthew Cross and Michael Leask are solid players down the order and runs would be expected from their bat.

Safyaan Sharif was brilliant with the ball picking 4 wickets in the last game and he would like to grab early wickets sharing the new ball with Alasdair Evans. Chris Sole also looked good in checking the flow of runs. However, the side would expect tighter spells in this game from the likes of Mark Watt, Leask, and Ollie Hairs who had leaked runs in the last game.

Scotland Predicted Playing XI:

Kyle Coetzer (c), George Munsey, Ollie Hairs, Richie Berrington, Calum MacLeod, Matthew Cross (wk), Michael Leask, Safyaan Sharif, Mark Watt, Chris Sole, Alasdair Evans

Scotland Actual Playing XI:

Calum MacLeod, Kyle Coetzer, Richie Berrington, Matthew Cross, Gavin Main, Mark Watt, Safyaan Sharif, George Munsey, Alasdair Evans, Ollie Hairs, Michael Leask

Zimbabwe Preview

Craig Ervine would be extremely upset with the result in the last game. Their top order is having an extended run of poor form and this is hurting the side. They could have easily won the last game with some contributions from the top. As the side stares at another series loss Ervine would expect to see better efforts from his players in this game.

The opening combination of Wesley Madhevere and Tadiwanashe Marumani have been failing regularly and the side would need a good start from them. The middle order is strong, and the side would expect runs in this game from Ervine, Regis Chakabva, and Sean Williams. Milton Shumba played a good knock in the last game and adds punch to this line-up along with Ryan Burl.

Tendai Chatara bowled well in the last game and so did Richard Ngarava and they would look to inflict early damage on the Scotts. The side would also need tight spells from Wellington Masakadza who was expensive on the last game.  Williams, Luke Jongwe, and Burl add variety to this attack.

Zimbabwe Predicted Playing XI:

Craig Ervine (c), Wesley Madhevere, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Regis Chakabva (wk), Sean Williams, Milton Shumba, Ryan Burl, Luke Jongwe, Wellington Masakadza, Tendai Chatara, Richard Ngarava

Weather Conditions

It will be overcast skies over Edinburg on September 17 and the conditions are expected to be challenging for the batsmen. The ball is expected to move in the air due to overcast conditions and the side batting first in the game shall eye a score of 150 runs or more.

Venue Details

Grange Cricket Club, Edinburgh is a small ground with a flat surface and a lush green outfield. Batsmen must be watchful here and get used to the pace and bounce on the surface. Fast bowlers have done well as the ball swings in the air. The small size of the ground makes it a difficult surface for the spinners.

Toss: To Bowl

The surface is a flat one and there is little in there for the bowlers early in the game. Most teams have won games here batting first. However, there are predictions for rains during the game and the side winning the toss would like to opt for bowling first in the game.

Zimbabwe would be under pressure after the string of failures we have seen from them in recent games. Their top order is shaky, and this is the area the side would have to work on going into this contest. Scotland also has their problems with the bat, but their knowledge of the conditions is an added advantage and this would put them slightly ahead of Zimbabwe in this game.

Scotland to win!
