The first T20I between Scotland Women and Ireland Women went on expected lines as the visitors registered a thumping 8-wicket win. Ireland Women have taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series and will look to extend it as the two teams clash again at the same venue today. Scotland Women will need to do something special to stop this Irish side.

Scotland Women Preview

In the first match of the series, Ireland Women restricted Scotland Women to just 133-6 after winning the toss. They chased the target down in just 16.2 overs with 8 wickets to spare. Orla Prendergast’s career-best 75 not out off 45 balls was the highlight of the chase. It was also the batter’s maiden fifty in 21 T20Is. Captain Laura Delany also looked good during her knock of 36* off 35 balls. Expect a big score from her in the remaining two matches.

Ireland’s bowling was top-class in the first match. New ball bowler Arlene Kelly enjoyed the conditions and her spell of 2-12 off 4 overs broke Scotland’s back. The other bowlers also chipped in with wickets at regular intervals. Ireland used as many as seven bowlers in the match and almost all of them impressed. It shows the depth of bowling this team has.

Scotland Women Predicted Playing XI:

Gaby Lewis, Amy Hunter, Orla Prendergast, Laura Delany (c), Eimear Richardson, Shauna Kavanagh, Mary Waldron (wk), Arlene Kelly, Leah Paul, Georgina Dempsey, Cara Murray

Ireland Women Preview

Scotland Women have a lot to work on. They looked a little rusty in all departments during the first T20I. Barring Saskia Horley, who scored a well-made 52 off 42 balls, none of the other batters left an impression. Captain and opener Sarah Bryce will have a huge responsibility on her shoulders to give the team a good start. She averages 28.80 after 33 matches at a strike rate of 104.65. A solid 40-odd at the start could make all the difference. There’s not a lot of depth and experience in their batting lineup and the likes of Lorna Jack would really need to step it up.

On the bowling front, only off-spinner Katherine Fraser made any real impact in the previous game. She picked up both the wickets to fall and conceded 31 runs in her 4 overs. Fraser is easily the best bowler on this side and now has 34 wickets in 25 matches at an economy of just 4.98. Her bowling in the powerplay overs will again be crucial.

Ireland Women Predicted Playing XI:

Sarah Bryce (c & wk), Ailsa Lister, Abbi Aitken Drummond, Saskia Horley, Lorna Jack, Priyanaz Chatterji, Katie McGill, Megan McColl, Rachel Slater, Abtaha Maqsood, Katherine Fraser

Weather Conditions

As we saw in the first T20I, the pitch at Grange Cricket Club is largely neutral throughout. It does assist spinners and seamers, but batters who are willing to be patient will have runs for the taking.

The weather at Edinburgh will be mostly cloudy with a few showers. We might have a rain-truncated match.

Venue Details

As we saw in the first match at the venue, a target of 134 did nothing to trouble the opposition. The team batting first in this match will have to look to set a target of around 170 runs to feel confident.

Toss: To Bowl

The team winning the toss will be looking to chase.

Ireland Women have extended their overall lead over Scotland Women and looking at the balance of the two sides, it looks like they are all set to cinch the series. The Irish batters and bowlers have enjoyed the conditions here and should be able to dominate again. Scotland’s batting doesn’t have much depth and their bowling looks rusty.

Ireland Women should prevail in this encounter.
