The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 continues with Match number 9: Scotland vs Italy at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. local start time.
Scotland come off a tough 35-run loss to the West Indies in their opener and need a strong bounce-back. Italy make their historic debut in any Cricket World Cup, as they qualified impressively and are full of confidence after their recent warm-up wins over Canada and the UAE. This Group C clash could be closer than the rankings suggest.

Scotland fought hard in their opening match of the tournament, chasing 183 vs. West Indies, but collapsed to 147 all out in the end, losing the game by 35 runs.
The Scots suffered an early collapse at 37/3 in the powerplay itself. But they fought back strongly with a 78-run stand between captain Richie Berrington, who scored 42 off 24 balls at a strike rate of 175, and Tom Bruce (who scored 35 off 28 balls).
There are no changes expected for this game, as Scotland would like to carry on with a consistent playing XI. Their opening combination is a mix of experience and hunger in the form of George Munsey and Michael Jones. Both didn't do well vs the Windies and will be hoping for a better start this time around.
Brandon McMullen at number 3 brings a lot of T20 league experience. He is regarded as one of the best players in the Scotland XI but managed to score only 14 runs in their opener. Captain Richie Berrington is the backbone of this team, having played 103 T20Is in which he has scored 2377 runs. Wicketkeeper batter Matthew Cross and all-rounder Michael Leask add batting depth down the order.
Earlier, their bowling was disciplined. Although they failed to take wickets in the powerplay, they kept the Caribbeans in check. But eventually they lost control in the middle overs as West Indies went on to score 182/5 in 20 overs.
Left-arm pacer Bradley James Currie starred with 2/23 in his four-over spell. Oliver Davidson, Safyaan Sharif, and Michael Leask all managed 1 wicket each, but the latter two conceded 40+ in their respective 4 overs.
Scotland have a great mix of experience and exuberance at the top of their batting order. Their medium-pace bowlers like Sharif and Currie suit the Eden Gardens surface, while Mark Watt, Oliver Davidson and Michael Leask can tighten the control in the middle overs. They will be hoping to open their account.
Tom Bruce Total Runs Over 20.5 1.85
Tom Bruce played a handy knock of 35 runs in the last match against West Indies, his first world cup outing. Bruce has scored 314 runs in 18 matches, averaging 19.63 in his T20I career. But here with his elevation to number 4, Bruce has a chance to score and excel and given his current form, we predict his score to be over 20 runs in today's match.

Italy will be making their debut in the T20 World Cup 2026, which is the first time they will participate in any Cricket World Cup. They are heavy underdogs in the competition, placed in Group C alongside their fellow European sides, England and Scotland. They did well in both the warm-up matches, winning against Canada and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In a recent warm-up game against UAE, Anthony Mosca ignited the batting with a quick fifty, demonstrating his passion for attacking from the outset. His brother Justin Mosca joins him in the top order, and together the Mosca brothers have already shown they can build strong partnerships and score fast. Anthony has scored 477 runs in 18 matches, while Justin has scored 381 runs in 20 matches.
Marcus Campopiano adds stability in the top order, having scored 475 runs in 25 matches, while JJ Smuts brings big experience from his South Africa days; he's a smart all-rounder who can bat aggressively and bowl spin.
South Africa-born Wayne Madsen will be leading the team. He has heaps of experience playing in the English domestic system for more than a decade and has played in top T20 leagues across the world. The 42-year-old veteran has played 7 T20Is for Italy and has scored 205 runs at a strike rate of 132.3.
Another English county veteran to keep an eye on is Grant Stewart, who has played nearly a decade in English domestic cricket. The Australia-born all-rounder likes to score at a quick run rate, having scored 473 runs in 20 matches at a strike rate of 159.8, and has taken 17 wickets at an economy rate under 6.
The Azzurri have a very well-settled bowling unit too. The Manenti brothers, Harry Manenti (pacer) and Ben Manenti (spinner), will bring all those experiences of playing in Australia. Both brothers are equally adept at contributing with the bat, while Ben is recently coming off the back of playing in the Big Bash League (BBL), where he picked up 3 wickets; on the other hand, he bagged 8 wickets in the Europe qualifier.
Wayne Madsen Total Runs Over 20.5 1.85
Wayne Madsen has scores of 39, 61, 10 and 42 in the last four T20I's played. It's his first ever world cup match and leading Italy, Madsen will wanna make an impact on the big stage and none better than scoring at Eden Gardens.

The weather in Kolkata on Monday is going to be very pleasant for a game of cricket. It will be sunny, but not very hot or humid, with a cool breeze blowing at 13 kmph. The temperature will be around 27°C. With the sun shining bright throughout the day, there is a 0% chance of rain.
The Eden Gardens pitch in Kolkata is a real treat for batters in T20 cricket. It’s flat and offers good bounce and true pace right from the start, so you can play your shots freely. The outfield is super quick. Teams often score 160–180 in the first innings, and sometimes even more on a good day. Spinners start to get help later on when the ball loses its shine, but overall it’s a high-scoring ground where big totals are common.
The average first-inning score at the venue is 168 in all of T20 cricket. 261 runs is the highest total at the Eden Gardens by the Kolkata Knight Riders, while 49 is the lowest.
Scotland to win the coin toss 1.90
We back Scotland to win the coin toss in today's match against Italy.
Toss isn't really a significant factor, especially in day games. The pitch surface remains the same throughout the game. However, chasing teams in particular have had an advantage at the venue, winning 58 out of 101 T20 matches when bowling first. So the captain who wins the toss might opt to bowl first and try to get the opposition out for less than 190.
Scotland and Italy should have a close match. Even though Italy is playing for the first time, they have players who have played for England and Australia. Scotland, on the other hand, has a great mix of experienced players and top-notch players like Berrington, Munsey, McMullen, and Jones. Italy has never played in Indian conditions before, and this will be their first time in a T20 World Cup match where there is a lot of pressure and glamour. So, Scotland should win this game. But this will be a close match, and Italy will give Scotland a hard time.
