The 2-match T20 series is done, and New Zealand has registered massive wins in both the games against hosts Scotland. It was the perfect display of aggressive batting from New Zealand in both games and they would look to continue with the same momentum. As the two sides play in the only ODI of the series, Scotland would look for a face-saving against the Kiwis who are looking in excellent form.

The two teams have played three ODI games in the past and New Zealand has won all of them by big margins. This would add to the side’s confidence going into this contest. Scotland hasn’t played against a strong opponent in this format for more than two years and they are likely to find this contest an uphill challenge. It remains to be seen if the side can pull up a surprising win in this game.

Scotland Preview

Richie Berrington’s side has got a taste of New Zealand’s batting strength. It was a massive loss for the team in the 2nd T20 where they went down by 102 runs. They need to come out of their shell and play well in the ODI. Berrington would like to see a strong effort from his bowlers as they have looked in poor form and failed to challenge the Kiwis in the T20 leg of the series.

Kyle Coetzer is expected to return to the side, and he will have to set up a good opening wicket stand with Christopher McBride. Calum MacLeod and Berrington are experienced players, and they would have to set up partnerships in the middle. The side would also expect to see runs down the order from the bats of Matthew Cross and George Munsey who have looked in good form with the bat this year.

It will be a tough challenge for the bowlers after the pounding they took during the T20 games. Safyaan Sharif and Mark Watt shall have to make good use of the new ball and take on the Kiwi top order. Hamza Tahir and Gavin Main have to keep the pressure on during the middle overs of the game. The side would also want to see good spells from McBride and McLeod during the game.

Scotland Predicted Playing XI:

Richie Berrington (c), Kyle Coetzer, Christopher McBride, Calum MacLeod, George Munsey, Matthew Cross (wk), Chris Greaves, Hamza Tahir, Mark Watt, Safyaan Sharif, Gavin Main

New Zealand Preview

Mitchell Santner has led the side well in the first leg of the tour with convincing wins and he would aim to finish it in style. The side has been in great form in the ODI in the last 12 months and the New Zealand skipper shall like to continue with the domination. Their batsmen have looked good, and Santner shall expect a good show from them in this game.

Martin Guptill and Finn Allen have to set up a good opening wicket stand, and they would enjoy the flat batting conditions here. The middle order has done well, and the side would expect runs from Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, and Daryl Mitchell in this game. James Neesham is a big hitter of the ball, and he would look to add quick runs with Santner down the order.

On the bowling front, the side would like to see a good opening burst from Lockie Ferguson and Blair Tickner who are likely to enjoy the conditions in this game. Santner and Ish Sodhi have had an excellent tour and the spin twin would be aiming for a good show in the last game. Neesham and Chapman add to the side’s bowling options.

New Zealand Predicted Playing XI:

Mitchell Santner (c), Martin Guptill, Finn Allen, Dane Cleaver (wk), Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Mark Chapman, Ish Sodhi, Blair Tickner, Lockie Ferguson

Weather Conditions

There is a forecast of rain in Edinburg on July 31. We might have disruption during the game. The ball would come to the bat nicely, but the fast bowlers are likely to get some assistance from the weather. A score of 300 runs on the board would be a must for the side that bats first here.

Venue Details

Grange Cricket Club, Edinburgh is a small ground. The wicket here has been good for batting as the ball comes to the bat nicely. Fast bowlers have done well at this venue as the wicket is fast and has lots of bounce. Spinners have a tough time on this surface as the ball doesn’t grip the surface and turn.

Toss: To Bat

The batting conditions looked excellent during the T20s, and we have seen high-scoring games. We expect to see similar conditions in this game and a high-scoring game is on the cards. The side that wins the toss here shall look to take advantage of the wicket by batting first in the game.

Scotland has been blown away in the two T20 games that have been played in the series. Their bowlers have looked rusty and have been unable to apply pressure on the New Zealand batsmen. This would play on their minds. New Zealand is a strong batting unit and they have enjoyed an excellent run in ODI cricket in recent months. They would start as favorites to win this contest.
