South Delhi Superstarz have made an impressive start to the Delhi Premier League 2026, sitting on two points after one match with a strong net run rate.
Their campaign opened on 1st August against East Delhi Riders. After restricting the opposition to 165 all out in 18.1 overs, the Superstarz chased the target successfully, reaching 169 for 6 in the same number of overs to win by four wickets with 11 balls remaining.
Batting was led by Anmol Sharma, who top-scored with a fluent 64 and set the platform for the chase. Karan Garg contributed a steady 27, Pranav Pant made 24, and captain Ayush Badoni added a quick 23.
The middle order showed composure to guide the side home after an early setback in the pursuit.
The bowling attack was highlighted by Anshuman Hooda, who claimed an outstanding five-wicket haul of 5/24 and was named Player of the Match. His spell triggered a dramatic collapse that saw East Delhi Riders lose their last seven wickets for just 29 runs.
Ayush Badoni supported with two wickets, while Ankit Dabas and Aman Bharti took one each. The bowling unit’s ability to fight back after the opposition looked set for a much higher total proved decisive.

West Delhi Lions, the defending champions of the Delhi Premier League, have made a mixed start to the 2026 season. After two matches they sit on two points with one win and one defeat. Their campaign began with a solid victory before a setback in their second outing.
The Lions opened their title defence on 1st August with a 19-run win over New Delhi Tigers. Batting first they posted 170 for 5 and then restricted the opposition to 151. Two days later, on 3 August, they scored 180 for 6 against Purani Dilli-6 only to see the target chased down in 17.5 overs as they suffered a seven-wicket defeat.
Batting has been the stronger suit so far. Ayush Doseja leads the run charts with 104 runs from two innings at a strike rate of 152.94 and has provided crucial stability and acceleration in the middle order. His highlight of the season is undoubtedly the 84 off 52 balls in the first game.
Ankit Kumar scored 86 runs against Purani Delhi in the last game, while Mayank Gusain has scored 54 runs and also chipped in with the ball. Krish Yadav has made 49 runs and Vikas Rana added 26 in his only innings. The top order has shown the ability to post totals in the 170-180 range on a consistent basis.
At the top of the bowling chart is Manan Bhardwaj, who has taken 4 wickets from 2 matches. Kulwant Khejroliya claimed 3 wickets in a single outing against New Delhi Tigers, while Mayank Gusain and Shubham Dubey have 2 wickets apiece. Ayush Doseja also picked up one wicket.

The surface at Arun Jaitley Stadium remains a flat, run-friendly track with consistent bounce and short square boundaries that reward clean hitting. Batters find it easy to time the ball once they settle in, and the fast outfield helps scoring. Early on, pacers can extract some seam movement, but the pitch gradually slows and offers grip for spinners in the middle overs. The average first inning score at the venue is 175.
So far the tournament has been heavily dominated by the bowling first side. There have been 6 matches played in which 4 games have been won by the chasing team.
South Delhi Superstarz look favourites after their strong opening win. Anshuman Hooda’s match-winning 5/24 and Anmol Sharma’s fluent 64 set a high standard, while West Delhi Lions have mixed form with one win and one loss despite Ayush Doseja’s 104 runs. Though the Lions lead the recent H2H, Superstarz’s would be eager to continue the winning momentum.
