We are into the 5th game of the Asia Cup Qualifier 2022 and Singapore would be up against Kuwait. Singapore lost both the games and they went down against the United Arab Emirates in the last game. They are out of contention for a place in the main tournament. Kuwait also comes into the contest after a big loss against Hong Kong.  

Singapore has had a series of poor results in recent months and the side has lost the last eight games. None of their players have managed to show consistency over the last 12 months. Kuwait has a strong batting line-up, and it remains to be seen if Singapore can defeat them in this game.

Amjad Mahboo’s side is out of contention for entry into the Asia Cup 2022. The side suffered its second loss of the tournament in the last game. They batted poorly to go down by 47 runs against the United Arab Emirates. As the side plays its last game of the tournament Mahboo would want his players to finish on a high by winning this game.  

Aritra Dutta played well in the last game and the side would like him to deliver a good start with Surendran Chandramohan. The middle order has been a big setback for the side, and they would need runs from the bats of Rezza Gaznavi, Aryaman Sunil, and Janak Prakash. Aman Desai must deliver in the final overs of the game and make runs with Avi Dixit and Mahboo.  

Amjad Mahboo was expensive in the last game and must lead from the front and deliver early breakthroughs for the side with Adwitya Bhargava. The side would also expect to see good spells from Aryaman Sunil and Vinoth Baskaran in the middle overs. Janak Prakash and Akshay Puri shall have to bowl better lines as Kuwait has a strong batting line-up.

Mohammad Aslam would be upset with the 8-wicket loss against Hong Kong in the last game. It was a poor show with the ball that cost them dearly last game. In both games, their bowlers have looked out of shape. Aslam’s side needs to win this by a record margin and pin hopes on UAE to defeat Hong Kong to qualify for the Asia Cup 2022.  

Openers Ravija Sandaruwan and Meet Bhavsar shall have to set up a good opening wicket stand post their failure in the last game. Adnan Idrees has missed out in both games and the side would expect runs from him and Usman Patel in the middle order. Aslam and Bilal Tahir have to add quick runs down the order along with Edison Silva.  

Sayed Monib and Yasin Patel would need to provide early breakthroughs against a Singapore batting line-up that has struggled. Aslam is an experienced bowler, and he has to lead from the front. The side would also like to see tight spells from Idrees, Silva, and Shiraz Khan to see a big win here.

There are predictions of clear skies over Al Amerat on August 24. The wicket shall play slow, but we have seen batsmen do well here once they get used to the pace of the surface. A score of 170 runs would be a good total to defend with quality bowling and put the side in a strong position.

Venue Details

Al Amerat Cricket Ground has a flat surface, and it has historically been a great surface to bat on. The outfield is fast and allows easy boundary scoring. Fast bowlers don’t have much on this surface, but spinners have done well at the venue as the ball stops on the batsmen and creates problems for them.

In the past, we have seen most sides win at this venue bowling first. The surface has been slower than normal in this tournament. Posting a total in such conditions is never easy. The side winning the toss in this game shall opt to bowl first and restrict their opponents to a small total.
