Sri Lanka would take on the Netherlands in a must-win contest in ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022. The Lankans come here with a massive win against the United Arab Emirates and must win this to retain second place in their group. The Netherlands won both games, and they registered a comprehensive win against Namibia before this contest.

Sri Lanka has their top order in good form, and this is important in a contest like this, where they must win the game to stay alive. They haven't lost a game against the Netherlands in the past, which is a big confidence booster. It will be interesting to see if the Netherlands can register a hat trick of wins in the tournament by winning this game.

Sri Lanka Preview

After a false start that saw them lose to Namibia in the first game, Dasun Shanaka's side made a strong comeback. They batted well and complemented it with their excellent bowling performance to defeat UAE by 79 runs. It is a must-win game for the side, and Shanaka would like his players to be at their best in this game.

Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis set up a big opening wicket stand in the last game. A similar show would be expected from them. The middle order is formidable, and the side would like a good performance from Dhananjaya de Silva, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Charith Asalanka. Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Shanaka, and Chamika Karunaratne add firepower to the batting down the order.

The bowling attack had an excellent outing in the last game. Maheesh Theekshana and Pramod Madushan would look to bowl tight spells with the new ball. Hasaranga is one of the most competent bowlers in this format and has an essential role in the middle overs. Shanaka, Dushmantha Chameera, and Karunaratne make it a strong bowling attack.

Sri Lanka Predicted Playing XI:

Netherlands Preview

Scott Edwards would be happy with the efforts of his side. They have won both games and nearly sealed a place for themselves in the Super 12 of the tournament. In the last game, it was a dominating performance by the side as they defeated Namibia by 5 wickets. It will be a more formidable challenge against Sri Lanka, and Edwards would like a determined effort from his players.

Max O'Dowd and Vikramjit Singh looked good in the last game, and the team would need a strong start from them here. Bas de Leede shall look to steer the innings in the middle overs and add quick runs with Tom Cooper and Colin Ackermann. They have good finishers in Scott Edwards and Roelof van der Merwe adding to their batting strength.

The bowling attack has fared well in the tournament, and the new ball pair of Fred Klaassen and Tim Pringle need to get early wickets for the side. Bas de Leede has been in good form, and he will have to tight spells in the middle overs with Roelof van der Merwe and Paul van Meekeren. Timm van der Gugten adds to the side's variety.

Weather Conditions

Geelong will have clear skies on October 20. The batting conditions are expected to be the best they have been in this tournament. We have seen days of poor weather earlier. Batsmen would enjoy batting on this track. To feel safe, the side batting first shall need 180 runs on the board.

Venue Details

Simonds Stadium, Geelong, is a small ground, and there have been high-scoring games in the past. Fast bowlers can move the ball in the air and have done well. It is challenging for the spinners as there is no assistance on this surface. Batting is easy on this track as the ball comes to the bat nicely allowing batsmen to play their strokes.

Toss: To Bowl

This wicket has had something for the bowlers at the start of the game. Most teams in the past have won games chasing scores at this venue. The flat surface allows teams to chase big scores here. Hence, we believe the side that wins the toss would like to bowl first and restrict the opposition to a small total.

The Netherlands comes here with two consecutive wins. However, the side would still be worried about the form of its middle order. They haven't been in the best touch in the last two games. Sri Lanka comes here with a big win, and they have depth in their batting. It will make them favorites to win this game.
