It will be a battle against all odds as Sri Lanka Women take on India Women in the first game of the three-match ODI series between two teams. The hosts did well in the last game of the T20 series to avoid a whitewash and they would look to take confidence from that win. India Women wouldn’t want to take the Sri Lankans lightly and play aggressive cricket here.
Sri Lanka Women have defeated the Indians only twice in this format of the game and this is likely to play on their minds. Their recent record in this format has been equally poor with two wins in their last 20 ODIs. The hosts would be under pressure, and it remains to be seen if they can pull off a win in the game.
Chamari Athapaththu’s played a match-winning knock to end the otherwise disastrous T20 series with a win. The Lankan skipper would like to lead from the front and carry this confidence into the ODI series. Their record doesn’t inspire much confidence and Athapaththu shall like her side to take on the Indians with a positive frame of mind.
Chamari Athapaththu and Hasini Perera are experienced players, and they have a key role at the top. The side would also like to see the middle order do well here and the likes of Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Madavi, and Nilakshi de Silva must build partnerships. Kavisha Dilhari and Anushka Sanjeewani will have to do well in the finisher’s role in this game.
Udeshika Prabodhani and Oshadi Ranasinghe shall have to do well with the new ball as the Indians have a strong batting line-up at the top. Sugandika Kumari did well during the T20s, and the side would need her to do well in the middle overs. Ranaweera, Achini Kulasuriya, and Dilhari will need to do well in the supporting role.

It will be the first ODI for the Indians without Mithali Raj who has hung her books and new skipper Harmanpreet Kaur would be eager to start her full-time ODI captaincy career with a win. Kaur would like to see a better show from her batters as they didn’t look in the best form. They can’t take the Lankans lightly and shall look for a good show from their key players.
Yastika Bhatia and Smriti Mandhana shall have to set up a good opening wicket stand in the game as the side lacked that during the T20s. Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Deepti Sharma shall have to steer the innings in the middle overs. Harmanpreet Kaur is a good hitter of the ball, and she would look to do the heavy lifting towards the end with Richa Ghosh.
On the bowling front, the side has done well, and they would look for a good show from Renuka Singh and Deepti Sharma in the game with the new ball. Vastrakar and Meghna Singh shall need to do well in the middle overs for the side. Kaur and Deepti Sharma shall have to fill in the role of a fifth bowler well in this game.

We would see overcast skies over Pallekele on July 1 and there are predictions for rain during the game. The surface would be a flat one where batters are likely to enjoy the ball coming onto the bat. The side that bats first in the game shall need 250 runs on the board to feel safe.
Pallekele International Cricket Stadium has big boundaries and a quick outfield. Batters enjoy batting on this surface as the ball comes to the bat nicely. There isn’t much on this surface for the fast bowlers, but spinners have done well as the wicket offers them a lot of assistance.
It looked a brilliant wicket to bat during the recent games played during Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka and we expect to see a similar surface here. The ball would come onto the bat nicely and spinners will enjoy bowling in the second innings. The side winning the toss would be happy to bat first
Sri Lanka Women would be battling a mental challenge here as their record against Indians has been poor. Their batting weakness has been exposed and there hasn’t been a contribution from the middle order. They would need partnerships in the middle order to do well in this game. India Women on the other hand have a strong bowling attack that is likely to enjoy the conditions. This would make them favorites in this game.
