Somerset and Essex will battle it out in the third match of 2021 Vitality T20 Blast competition that will be played at The Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton on Wednesday.

Last year, Essex failed to make an impression as a unit and could only register two wins out of ten played in the competition. Captain Simon Harmer will be hoping that the side can deliver a decent show in this opening fixture.

On the other hand, Somerset will be hoping to turn things around in this year’s competition. Skipper Lewis Gregory will be hoping that the side can start their campaign on a positive note.

Somerset Preview

The county side have signed New Zealand batsman Devon Conway for the second half of the T20 Blast competition. Left-hander is currently playing for New Zealand in the ongoing two-match Test series against England.

Besides Roelof van der Merwe and Merchant de Lange are other notable overseas players available for the coming season of T20 Blast competition.

Last year, Babar Azam showed sensational form with the bat. This year, Babar Azam is not available as he will be representing Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League that is going to begin in a week’s time in the United Arab Emirates.

In the batting department, the side will be depending on wicket-keeper batsman Tom Banton, Tom Abell and Steven Davies to deliver the bulk of the runs.

Last season, middle-order batsman Tom Abell showed decent form with the bat for Somerset. In nine matches played, Abell scored 227 runs with a strike rate of 136.74. He will be looking to get some runs under his belt in this fixture.
