Back Somerset to win this match.
Tournament: VITALITY T20 BLAST 2021 | Format: T20 | Venue: The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton, England | Toss: To Bowl
Bet NowSomerset and Glamorgan are both pretty similarly placed in the South Group points table. While Glamorgan is 5th on the table with 2 wins in 5 matches at a NRR of -0.265, Somerset is at No. 6 with 1 win in 4 games at a NRR of -0.102. Both the teams will now be squaring off at Taunton today in the hope of climbing up the ladder. Glamorgan looks in a little better shape and are coming off a victory in their last match. Somerset’s last match was abandoned and they have a lot of work to do.
Somerset’s last match against Sussex was abandoned without a ball being bowled. This messed up their rhythm as they had beaten Kent in the match before that by 47 runs. Somerset started their T20 Blast journey with two consecutive losses but that victory against Kent came as a big morale booster. Now, they have to try and take down Glamorgan in this encounter.
In that win against Kent, Somerset had produced the perfect game. On batting first, they had set a total of 204-7 on the board courtesy of a special knock of 68 off 33 balls from Tom Abell. Lewis Goldsworthy (48 off 29 balls) too played a wonderful innings. Abell has been their best batsman so far with two fifties in as many games. However, the top-order of Tom Banton, James Hildreth, and Will Smeed need to step up as well.
Their bowling has been decent with fast bowlers Josh Davey and Marchant de Lange doing a good job. Leg-spinner Max Waller produced a superb spell of 2-26 in the match against Kent and his performance here will be crucial.

After 3 losses in their first 4 games, Glamorgan registered a solid confidence-boosting win against Middlesex in their last match. Batting first, they could only muster 150-9 on a sluggish surface but their bowlers did a fantastic job of restricting the opposition to just 129-9.
Marnus Labuschagne who has been the batting hero of the team so far this season with 261 runs in 5 matches, had a rare failure in the last match. But thankfully, Colin Ingram finally stepped up with a magnificent 75 off 48 balls when the entire batting unit crumbled around him. Ingram and Labuschagne will remain the batting mainstays for Glamorgan. But the likes of captain David Lloyd, Kiran Carlson, and Callum Taylorhave all had a dry run so far and will need to contribute.
Right-arm fast-medium pacer Daniel Douthwaite has been the team’s best bowler this season with 8 wickets in 5 matches at an economy of just 6.93. Timm van der Gugten, who had wonderful figures of 3-16 in the last match, has been doing a fine job too. Marnus Labuschagne has also been playing a great support role with his spin during the middle overs and has already plucked 6 wickets.

The pitch at Taunton is a very good one for batting. It’s a beautiful strip that allows the ball to come onto the bat nicely and batsmen are likely to be able to score freely. Seam bowlers are likely to find the conditions tough but expect the slower bowlers to find some purchase during the middle stages.
Rain is unfortunately predicted today at Taunton. There will be a couple of afternoon showers and we might have a truncated game.
Some very big scores have been posted at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton. The highest total batting first here in the T20 Blast is a massive 229-6 by Somerset against Middlesex in 2014. The highest successful run chase in the T20 Blast at Taunton is 227 by Middlesex. Moreover, the average first innings winning score at Taunton is 192.
Even though tall scores have been scored on this venue, chasing should be the better option for the team winning the toss as rain is on the radar.
All of the last 5 contests between Somerset and Glamorgan have been won by Sussex. So you can see the kind of dominance they have had over Glamorgan over the last few seasons. Taunton is their home venue and they will clearly start as favorites for this clash. Moreover, they appear to have a much more balanced side and should be able to dominate Glamorgan again.
Back Somerset to win this match.
