It is the 18th game of The Hundred, 2022, and will be an important one for both Southern Brave and Manchester Originals. Southern Brave, who are the defending champions, come to this game with a loss against the Oval Invincibles, their third loss in a row this season. The Manchester Originals have also been in poor form, but the side managed its first win of the season against the Welsh Fire in the last game.

Both teams have lost three games each and there would be pressure on them to deliver. Southern Brave play at home where they have enjoyed a good record in the past. The side would look to make effective use of the home conditions and find their form back. The Originals won’t make it easy after their victory in the last game.

Southern Brave Preview

James Vince’s side has been pushed to a corner. They went down against the Oval Invincibles in the last game, their third consecutive loss. It was poor efforts with the bat that saw them post a small total on the board. Vince would be aware of the importance of this game and press for a win. A loss here can close the door for the side’s dream of reaching the Eliminator round.

James Vince and Quinton de Kock are the most experienced batsmen in the side and the pair shall need to pose a good score on the board. Alex Davies and Marcus Stoinis are good players in the middle order, and they would look to make runs with Tim David. The side bats deep and has good hitters of the ball in Ross Whiteley, James Fuller, and George Garton and they have to contribute with the bat.

Their bowlers have been inconsistent and the new ball pair of Michael Hogan and Garton will look to strike early as the Originals have struggled with the bat. Stoinis has done well, and he will have an important role in the middle overs with James Fuller and Rehan Ahmed. The side would expect better bowling from Jake Lintott in this game.

Southern Brave Predicted Playing XI:

James Vince (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Alex Davies, Marcus Stoinis, Ross Whiteley, Tim David, James Fuller, George Garton, Rehan Ahmed, Jake Lintott, Michael Hogan

Manchester Originals Preview

Jos Buttler’s side finally hit form and registered a convincing win against the Welsh Fire. Their bowlers were on the money from the start of the game and helped the side to a 47-run win in the game. They would fancy their chances in this game as Southern Brave come here with three losses. Buttler would like to press hard for the second win of the season.

Phillip Salt and Jos Buttler got starts in the last game and the pair would need to set up a strong show at the top. Their middle order has struggled, and this is an area of concern. They would need runs from Wayne Madsen, Andre Russell, and Laurie Evans in the game. Tristan Stubbs, Paul Walter, and Tom Hartley must produce good knocks down the order for the side to win.

Their bowlers had struggled at the start of the season, but they did well in the last game. Tom Hartley and Mitchell Stanley must deliver the goods with the new ball in this game. Sean Abbott and Stubbs bowled greats spells in the last game and the same would be expected from them. Russell, Walter, and Matthew Parkinson add to the side’s bowling strength.

Manchester Originals Predicted Playing XI:

Jos Buttler (c), Philip Salt (wk), Andre Russell, Tristan Stubbs, Laurie Evans, Wayne Madsen, Paul Walter, Sean Abbott, Tom Hartley, Mitchell Stanley, Matthew Parkinson

Weather Conditions

The skies over Southampton would be overcast on August 18. The wicket here is challenging to bat on as we have already seen in the series. The ball would move and also stop on the batsmen. The side batting first in this game shall be happy with a score of 150 runs.

Venue Details

The Rose Bowl, Southampton is a good surface to bowl on for the fast bowlers the ball moves, and bowlers generate bounce from the surface. Batsmen need to adjust themselves to the pace on the surface before they start playing their strokes. Spinners haven’t had the best of success here with no assistance for them.

Toss: To Bowl

Only once has a side defended a score successfully at this venue. It has historically been a low-scoring wicket where the sides have found it tough to post an imposing score on the board. The side winning the toss shall have no hesitation in opting to bowl first in this game.

Manchester Originals have had a poor record against the Southern Brave in the past. Their batting has been a problem for the side, and they would need a good show from their top order to win this game. The Southern Brave have struggled but they have had a good record at this venue. This would make them favorites in this game.
