Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Kings XI Punjab by 45 runs
Can SRH recover after the devastating defeat in Mumbai?
Our prediction is that SRH will beat KXIP and remain in the top-four.
Tournament: Indian Premier League (IPL) | Format: Twenty20 | Venue: Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad | Toss: To Bowl
Bet NowSunrisers Hyderabad replaced the Deccan Chargers in 2012 and debuted in 2013. In 2016 they grabbed the trophy after defeating then-favorite RCB. SRH misses their star opener Jonny Bairstow who contributed in SRH’s numerous wins this season along with David Warner. However, playing at home, they look much composed and robust against any team.
KXIP won four out of first six matches this season. But in the last 5 games, they managed just one win. The last time they reached the IPL playoffs was in the year 2014. This time they are not so far from advancing to the next stage, but they need to be very much clinical as they cannot afford to lose a match. KXIP have never clinched the trophy, though this year, they look promising and the captain Ravichandran Ashwin has the potential to lead his side in the big games.
For SRH, the IPL season has been like a roller-coaster ride. They started with 3 consecutive wins. Later they lost in 3 games in a row. With two more wins against CSK and KKR, they looked to be recovering, but again they lost two back to back matches. The star performer Bairstow got out on a duck in his last match in this IPL against CSK. His absence had a negative impact on SRH’s opening in the previous match as Williamson failed to support Warner against RR at Jaipur. Manish Pandey’s 61 and Warner’s 37 were not enough to put up a defending total against RR.
For SRH, the Orange Cap holder David Warner has been the key player with 611 runs followed by Bairstow with 445. Manish Pandey has scored 198 this season. Rashid Khan is the highest wicket-taker for SRH with 11 scalps, followed by Sandeep Sharma with 10 wickets. At home turf, it should be relatively easy for them to keep KXIP in check.
DA Warner, KS Williamson (c), MK Pandey, V Shankar, Shakib Al Hasan, DJ Hooda, WP Saha(wk), Rashid Khan, B Kumar, S Kaul, KK Ahmed
Khaleel Ahmed, Vijay Shankar, Manish Pandey, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan, WP Saha, S Sharma, KS Williamson, Mohammad Nabi, David Warner, Abhishek Sharma
Till now, KXIP has reached in the playoffs only twice. While in 2008 they lost to CSK in the second semi-final, in 2014 there were the finalist and lost to KKR. This season looks different and promising for KXIP, but to make it to the playoffs has never been easy in the IPL.
KXIP have won 5 matches so far in 11 games but the match against Mumbai Indians must have hurt them the most. After getting most of the MI batsmen out, they could not control the astonishing Pollard who just snatched the victory out of their hands.
In IPL 2019, KL Rahul and Chris Gayle have 885 runs between them, Gayle is just 4 runs ahead of Raul. Mayank Agarwal also contributed in some of their wins as he amassed 262 runs. Mohammad Shami is the highest wicket-taker for KXIP with 14 wickets, followed by R Ashwin with 12 wickets. After two away losses, their trip to Hyderabad would be a challenging one for R Ashwin and his team.
R Ashwin (c), KL Rahul, CH Gayle, MA Agarwal, DA Miller, N Pooran (wk), Mandeep Singh, GC Viljoen, M Ashwin, AS Rajpoot, Mohammed Shami
Arshdeep Singh, Simran Singh, Chris Gayle, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Lokesh Rahul, Nicholas Pooran, David Miller, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Murugan Ashwin, Mayank Agarwal
The match will be played at Rajiv Gandhi Intl. Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad. There was only one international T20 registered on this ground which was abandoned without a ball bowled. In IPL 2019, at this ground, the highest and lowest totals are 231 and 96, whereas the highest total chased this season is 198 and the lowest defended score is 136.
Out of last six matches played here, 3 are won by the team batting first and 3 by the team chasing. Overall in 61 domestic T20 matches, 34 times the team batting second have won. It would be advisable to opt to field first after winning the toss.
KXIP have lost their recent two games in Bengaluru and Delhi. While SRH has lost their last two matches in Chennai and Jaipur. Playing at Hyderabad against stronger SRH would not be easy for KXIP. Head to head SRH have better records considering their 9 wins out of 13 matches. Also, SRH at the home turf has much better records of 4 wins from 6 matches this season. SRH have a very good record against Kings XI Punjab. Also, at Hyderabad, they are a much stronger team.
Thus, we predict Sunrisers Hyderabad will beat Kings XI and grab two points to move an inch closer to the playoffs stage.
