Playing against mighty England Women, Sri Lankan Women are struggling in each of the matches. Most of the time, they failed to put enough runs on the board, making it difficult for their bowlers to confidently defend. 

England Women, on the other hand, are playing quite well, away from their home conditions. Their batters, especially the wicketkeeper Amy Ellen Jones and Tammy Beaumont are playing exceptionally well.

Overall, it would be quite an easy contest for the visitors as they never lost against Sri Lanka Women in T20Is, and it does not look like anything would change dramatically now.

Though the loss in the preceding ODI series was not unexpected, Sri Lanka’s loss in the first T20I must have lowered their confidence further. The team is going through a tough time. Against their hope and wish, a switch in the game format did not prove to be a game changer for them. It merely added to their misery.

In the first T20, their batsmen got out cheaply at 94, leaving a very little scope for their bowlers to defend such a low total. Such low scores are never fit for T20 format. Their batsmen need to do something magical to save second T20 match and the series. Madavi would be the key players to win the match and end the barren run of the losses against the visitors.

In T20, none of their batsmen are averaging above 20. In the current squad, not many are vastly experienced in this format. It will be interesting to see if Sri Lanka Women could turn the tables against the English team to save the series.

England Women Preview

England Women look quite comfortable even though they are not at home. What a great start with ODI series victory, followed by a win in the first T20I match over despondent hosts.

The wicketkeeper Jones looks in great touch, with three consecutive 50s in ODIs. And Tammy Beaumont is not much behind her. Beaumont scored a half-century in the first T20 and it seems only these two batsmen are enough to keep Sri Lanka always under check. 

Anya Shrubsole is performing quite well with 5 ODI wickets. With her 2 wickets in the first T20 match along with 3 wickets by Linsey Smith in the first T20 match, they dominated Sri Lanka batters. And it is likely to continue in the second match as well. A 2-0 lead for England is quite probable with lack of challenges from the hosts.

Weather Conditions

It is the same P Sara Oval, Colombo stadium where first T20 match was played, where Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first, and eventually, they lost it. Prior to this, there were no T20s played here. Women ODI matches on the same ground are mostly won by the team batting second.

Though from England’s point of view, toss won’t matter much, they would prefer to bat first and put the hosts under pressure of runs.
