Hosts Sydney Thunder will be eager to get things moving when they will face Perth Scorchers in the 17th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) at Sydney Showground stadium in Sydney on Wednesday.

Sydney Thunder will be bitterly disappointed with a narrow 20-run defeat in their last match against Adelaide Strikers on Monday.

On the other hand, Perth Scorchers lost to Hobart Hurricanes in a game played at Launceston on Sunday. With this result, Scorchers have just collected two points out of four games played.

Both sides will be desperate to register a win in this match after suffering defeats in their previous games.

Sydney Thunder Preview

The side has been inconsistent so far in the competition with two wins out of four games played. Sydney Thunder will have opportunity to climb the league table if they win their game against Perth Scorchers.

Captain Shane Watson has looked in good form with the bat but so far hasn’t produced a big score for the side in the competition.

In the batting department, wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler has been phenomenal at the top of the innings and so far accumulated 195 runs in 4 matches at an average of 48.75. Buttler has been a consistent performer for the side this season.

Callum Ferguson played well against Adelaide Strikers and scored 47 runs off 39 balls with the help of four boundaries. The side will be relying on the likes of Buttler and Ferguson to do bulk of the scoring.

The middle-order has looked frail at times with Joe Root, Daniel Sams and Arjun Nair not doing much with the bat so far this season.

In the bowling department, Thunder need to make amends as Jonathan Cook and Sam Rainbird leaked a lot of runs with the new-ball. Chris Green and Daniel Sams bowled impressive spells for Sydney Thunder in the previous game against Adelaide Strikers.

Sydney Thunder Predicted Playing XI:

Shane Watson (captain), Callum Ferguson, Joe Root, Daniel Sams, Jason Sangha, Jos Buttler (wk), Arjun Nair, Chris Green, Sam Rainbird, Fawad Ahmad, Jonathan Cook

Perth Scorchers Preview

Scorchers have got off to worse possible start in this year’s competition. The side has managed only one victory out of four games played this season.

It will be interesting to see if experienced opener Michael Klinger will take part in this match after struggling to produce any sort of runs in the four games played this season.

William Bosisto perished for a first-ball duck in the game played against Hobart Hurricanes. The ploy by Scorchers to promote Bosisto to open the innings did not work. The return of Cameron Bancroft will certainly bolster Scorcher’s batting resources.

All-rounder Hilton Cartwright has been Scorcher’s leading run scorer with 95 runs in 4 matches at an average of 31.66. Captain Ashton Turner needs to produce consistently good scores for his team in the next couple of games.

In the bowling department, Jhye Richardson, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jason Behrendorff have done a fantastic job for the franchise so far this season. Ashton Agar also had a good game against Hobart Hurricanes and picked up two wickets from his four overs.

Perth Scorchers Predicted Playing XI:

Ashton Turner (captain), William Bosisto, Ashton Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Hilton Cartwright, Michael Klinger, Nathan-Coulter Nile, Jhye Richardson, Jason Behrendorff, Andrew Tye

Weather Conditions

The wicket prepared for this is going to be good one for batting. The surface does provide assistance to the spinners. The weather forecast for Wednesday is predicted to dry and sunny.

Venue

The Sydney Showground stadium has hosted a lot of Big Bash League games in the past. The most recent game was clash between city rivals Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunders this season.

Toss: To Bat

The side that wins the toss would like to bat first and put a competitive score on the board. The pitch tends to get a little tricky as spinners get more out of the surface in the second half of the game.

Host Sydney Thunder will be clear favorites to win this game. The side has quality players in their ranks and will be playing on their home turf. Perth Scorchers will need to improve their batting in order to get something out of this game.

We are backing Sydney Thunder for the win!
