Sydney Sixers beat Brisbane Heat by 3 wickets

Tournament: Big Bash League 2020-21 | Format: T20 | Venue: Carrara Oval, Queensland | Toss: To Bat
Bet NowSydney Sixers were served a jolt in the last game where they were beaten by 86 runs against the Perth Scorchers. That huge loss dented their net run rate a little and affected their chances of getting to the top spot on the table as well. The Sixers, who are at the No.2 position at present, will now be looking to make amends when they take on Brisbane Heat in their next encounter. The Heat are on a good winning run at the moment and have already beaten the Sixers once. They will hence pose a good challenge.
After being in a good winning run for a while, the Sydney Sixers have now lost 2 out of their last 3 matches. Their last loss by 86 runs against the Perth Scorchers would hurt them particularly badly. Firstly, it came against a team that is at the bottom end of the table and secondly it was an extremely poor performance. Chasing a target of 184 runs, the Sixers were bundled out for just 97. Barring Jack Edwards who made 44, the entire batting order just collapsed.
Josh Philippe, James Vince, and Jordan Silk are the batsmen to watch out for in this game for Sydney as they have been in decent form recently. Captain Daniel Hughes, who is the second-highest run-getter for the team this season, would also have to lead from the front to ensure another batting collapse doesn’t happen. The lack of form of Daniel Christian after that sensational fifty is a concern, though.
Sydney’s bowling wasn’t at its best in the last match. But they have a decent bowling unit with the likes of Steve OKeefe and Ben Dwarshuis doing a fine job. Even Lloyd Pope looked good in the previous match. However, Daniel Christian hasn’t been at his best, and Jake Ball has been expensive, which presents a headache to the team.

Brisbane Heat is slowly getting into their groove after that heartbreaking loss by 1 run against Hobart Hurricanes and have won 3 games in a row. They are coming off an 18-run win (DLS method) against Melbourne Stars and have attained a good winning momentum.
The team would be delighted to have the destructive opener and captain Chris Lynn back into the eleven who celebrated his return with a cracking 48 off 23 balls in the last match. Max Bryant and Joe Burns looked in good nick too. If they can get some solid contribution by Jimmy Peirson down the order, then this Brisbane line up will pose a threat to Sydney.
Brisbane’s bowling is looking in good shape too. Xavier Bartlett and Jack Wildermuth are doing a fine job at the front but it is Mark Steketee - the leading wicket-taker of the team with 15 wickets so far - who will be the man to watch out for again. Another X-factor that Brisbane has is the presence of spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman. With 12 wickets at an economy of just 6.61, he has been strangling batsmen beautifully and will be eager to work his magic again.

The wicket at Carrara Oval in Queensland is quite a belter. As we saw in the last match, the ball came on nicely onto the bat and runs were there for the taking. Seamers would have to be very careful with their lines. However, spinners can find some purchase through the middle phase.
The weather at Queensland has been rainy of late but it is expected to be clear on the day of the match. It will be cloudy so that might help the bowlers.
There has been only one game played at Carrara Oval in Queensland this season – between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars. It was a 10-over-a-side game and we saw 225 runs being scored in the 20 overs. Expect another high-scoring encounter and the team batting first will target around 170-180 runs on the board.
The team winning the toss is likely to bat first. It’s a superb wicket and a healthy total up front would be the deal way to go.
In the last 5 games between Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat, Sydney has won 3 games. However, Brisbane will take confidence from the fact that they beat Sydney earlier this season by 4 wickets. Sydney has suddenly lost their edge a little and have not been at their best in the last 3 matches. Meanwhile, Brisbane has found their winning momentum and are looking really solid. This will be a close contest but Brisbane will have an edge.
Expect Brisbane Heat to emerge as the winners of the match.
