Bet NowBoth Sydney Sixers Women and Melbourne Stars Women had a busy first week where they played back to back games. While the Sixers had a mixed start where they won one and lost one, the Stars had the worst possible start to their campaign this season. They stumbled in their chase of 165 in the first game before putting up just 136 while batting first. Both games came against the Hobart Hurricanes. Moreover, this has come on the back of a poor season last year where they finished seventh. Hence, the turnaround hasn’t been as expected.
Meanwhile, the Sixers who finished runners-up last season started with a commanding win over the Thunder in the Sydney-derby. The batters showed the way and the bowlers backed it up really well. However, they hit rock bottom against Brisbane Heat when they were bowled out for a paltry score. In fact, the bowlers also had an off-game. Thus, they will be looking to bounce back strongly and gain some momentum.
The Sydney Sixers boast of a strong top-order and a dream opening pair. Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy form a dangerous opening duo and have been in some excellent form as well.
Perry has led from the front with both bat and ball. She scored a fine 81 in the first game and even in the drubbing against the Heat, she top-scored with 27. She has also picked up two wickets. Healy is the other star player at the top of the order who is in good form. She scored 42 in the first game against the Thunder. Meanwhile, international recruits like Ashleigh Gardner and Marizanne Kapp are yet to make significant contributions.
Sarah Aley is leading the wicket charts for the Sixers. She has picked up four wickets from two games and has also been economical. Hayley Silver-holmes has been a touch expensive but she has a knack of picking wickets and has done that too in the two games so far.

Melbourne Stars have a solid top order as well. The experienced South African and Australian duo of Lizelle Lee and Elyse Villani open the batting with Emma Inglis and Mignon du Preez to follow soon after. However, they haven’t fired so far.
While Lee has got a couple of good starts (scores of 28 and 23), she hasn’t kicked on and made it big. Skipper Villani has been a big flop in the two games so far. Inglis and du Preez have been disappointing as well as they’ve failed for two games in a row. Hence, the Stars will hope that this top four fires in the coming games and revive their campaign.
With the ball, it is Erin Osborne who is leading the wicket charts. She has four wickets in two games and has looked in some good rhythm. Annabel Sutherland and Kristen Beams have chipped indecently as well. Both of them have picked up two wickets apiece in this tournament so far.

It is expected to be a rather cloudy day. However, the good news is that the rain gods will most likely stay away. The temperatures are expected to hover around the 30s. Moreover, the humidity won’t be high either. Also, the pitch might be a batting beauty as well. It has tended to produce high scores in domestic cricket.
This will be the first Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) game at the Hurstville Oval in Sydney this season. It is a regular venue in the Australian domestic circuit. Moreover, it has a history of dishing out belters and hence, a high-scoring game could be on the cards.
The team winning the toss might want to make the first use of the pitch and hence, bat first. Moreover, Sydney Sixers have won their only game of this season by batting first as well. Melbourne Stars struggled during their chase in the first game.
The Sydney Sixers Women got off to a great start in this tournament when they handed Sydney Thunder Women a drubbing. They racked up 192 batting first. However, they did crash to 73 all out in the very next game but it can be put aside as an aberration. Hence, Sydney Sixers will start as favorites and are in a better state than the Melbourne Stars.
