It is the 7th game of the Bangladesh Premier League and Sylhet Sixers would take on Chittagong Vikings at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.

The Sixers didn’t do well in their tournament opener against Comilla Victorians handing them an easy win. Vikings on the other hand won their first game though it surely wasn’t the most convincing win as far as their batting performance was concerned. But their bowlers were on the money right from the start which should serve as a confidence booster. 

It is still early days in the tournament and both the sides would go to the ground riding on confidence about winning it.

The team had struggled last year and this year too they didn’t begin on the right note putting up a terrible batting performance in their opening game. 

The batting was wayward for the side with skipper David Warner getting run out. Liton Das and Towhid Hridoy didn’t deliver the goods with their batting and Sabbir Rahman failed as well. It was left to Nicholas Pooran, Afif Hossain and Alok Kapali to rescue the side from a terrible position but 127 runs on the board was never going to be enough in a T20 game.  The top order would be looking forward to bettering their performance in the next game. 

The bowlers would have been really proud of their efforts as they made the opponents scrape through with a win of the penultimate ball of the game. Mohammad Irfan and Sandeep Lamichhane bowled really tight spells and so too did Al-Amin Hossain. The team would expect their star bowler Taskin Ahmed to provide them with a better opening spell in the next game.

Chittagong Vikings Preview

Chittagong Vikings had a terrible season last year but they have made the perfect start to the season with a win against defending champions Rangpur Riders. 

But the win also came along with its own concerns. The batsmen seemed to be busy playing too many shots and almost made a mess of the small total of 99 that they were chasing. They lost 7 wickets with Cameron Delport, Mohammad Ashraful, Sikandar Raza and Mosaddek Hossain falling to poor shots. The good news for the side’s batting was the performance from Mohammad Shahzad and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim. The top order can’t afford to throw its wickets in the upcoming games. 

Bowling was clinical for the side with Robbie Frylinck and Khaled Ahmed bowling incredible spells at less than 4 runs an over. Nayeem Hasan also bowled well but the side would want to see better bowling from Abu Jayed and Sunzamul Islam who went for a few runs in an otherwise low scoring game.

The weather forecast for January 09 is bright and sunny which should offer a good game of cricket. While the Shere Bangla National Stadium pitch is known to be a belter and has seen high scoring games it is winter and there seems to be a bit of dampness in the pitch. This should help the side that bowls first in the initial few overs with a bit of seam movement.

The Shere Bangla National Stadium is one of the best grounds in the country and is known for producing high scoring encounters. It offers assistance to the fast bowlers and spinners in equal measures. The squares aren’t deep and this makes it a good ground for scoring square of the wicket

Toss: To Bowl

It is an afternoon game and hence dew isn’t likely to be much of a factor. But both the early afternoon games have seen the side batting first struggling in the initial overs as there is something for the fast bowlers in the initial overs. So in most likelihood the skipper winning the toss should opt to bowl first.
