Will this be the year when Melbourne Renegades finally start producing the goods in the Big Bash League and get involved at the top of the division instead of playing out their usual fun at the bottom of the pile?
If it is to be a season when things are turned on their head, then that may mean Sydney Sixers will have to get used to a few more defeats than usualk after they have been well in the mix at the 'business end' of the BBL more often than not of late.
The BBL gets underway in Perth as the Scorchers take on Melbourne Stars on Sunday but this match between Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades will be an excellent marker of what both sides are capable of and what we can expect at the SCG.

Sydney Sixers' success over recent seasons has been built on the strength of their top order batting and with a top three of James Vince, Daniel Hughes and Josh Philippe, that could well be an area where they are too hot to handle once again this season.
That's not to say that they don't have additional batting depth with Moises Henriques, Kurtis Patterson, Jordan Silk and Hayden Kerr all capable of making match-winning innings.
With the ball, Jackson Bird has long been a top performer in the BBL and he, along with the skilful Ben Dwarshuis, are likely to be the opening pair for Sydney Sixers once again in this game.
Vince has been in the best of form's this year scoring 1414 runs in 46 T20 matches, he is averaging 3.5 fours per game and at SCG he averages 2.73 fours per game and most often than not scores over 30 runs per game.
The left hander has a had a phenomenal year in T20's where he has scored 799 runs in 21 matches, averaging 40 runs per game. At SCG in 28 matches, Hughes has scored 526 runs and against the Renegades he has scored 256 runs in 11 matches. Given his recent form and record at the SCG, we back Hughes to come good and score over 18.5 runs in today's match.

If Jake Fraser-McGurk finds the middle of the bat early in this tournament then Melbourne Renegades could be in for a treat of a season but if he doesn't then there are serious questions about their batting ability for this year's competition. With the exception of the Australian international, and with Jacob Bethell on international duty with England, Melbourne Renegades will be looking to the likes of Laurie Evans to turn up and make a match winning innings in this game.
Bowling wise, Melbourne Renegades look a lot stronger. Adam Zampa remains one of the best T20 spin bowlers in the world and Tom Rogers has bowled plenty of special spells across his BBL career!
The dynamic right hander is known for scoring runs at a fast pace, last season he scored 257 runs in 8 matches, where his strike rate was 158.64. Against the Sixers he averages 22.3 runs per game, the surface at SCG suits his type of batting, where he can trust the bounce and swing through the line.

Humidity levels will be high before this game begins but they are forecast to climb across the match as well. No rain is forecast with clear skies expected throughout.

Minimal TurnThe SCG remains a true batting surface with plenty of pace and bounce in the pitch at this stage of the tournament. Whoever bats first will be looking to post a total of 170+.
Three out of the last five BBL matches played at the SCG, have seens scores in excess of over 302.5 runs, and the average total aggregate score per game last season was 304.2 runs. The surface at SCG offers a good batting track and we predict it to be a moderate scoring game and the total match score to be over 302.5 runs.
The SCG often offers something for the pace bowlers early on before flattening out and allowing the stroke makers to show off their skills. We predict the captains will want to bowl first.
Melbourne Renegades have been the whipping boys in the BBL for many years but we expect them to be more competitive this time around. That said, we expect Sydney Sixers to be too st4ong for them in this opening game.
