Tournament: WOMENS BIG BASH LEAGUE 2020 | Format: T20 | Venue: North Sydney Oval, Sydney, Australia | Toss: To Bat
Bet NowSydney Sixers Women have derailed after starting the season on a high and now find themselves at the 6th position in the table. They have suffered a number of losses in recent times and don’t have much time left to make their way to the top four again. They would be hoping for a commanding win in their next game against the floundering Melbourne Renegades Women who are almost certainly out of contention. This match would hence be more important for Sydney Sixers who would be desperate for another win but the Renegades could well spoil their chances.
Sydney Sixers Women had started with a bang this season and were looking like the team to beat. However, five losses in a row saw them plummet down to the 6th spot. They did earn a crucial 4-run win against Sydney Thunder Women in their last game and that should really help their confidence.
On paper, Sydney has such a strong batting unit with Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry at the top and Erin Burns, Dane van Niekerk, and Marizanne Kapp in the middle. Unfortunately, they have been inconsistent of late and not been performing together. However, Healy’s 44 and Van Niekerk’s 45 in the last match against the Renegades are some good signs for the team. Another good show by the batting unit would be needed to get the team another important win.
Sydney’s bowling has plenty of good options. Kapp and Van Niekerk have been doing a fine job up front and Perry, along with Sarah Aley and Erin Burns have managed to take wickets in the middle. However, they would need to keep the runs in check and ensure they are a bit more economical than they have been in recent times.

The Melbourne Renegades, despite winning an odd match here and there, have been extremely inconsistent this season and haven’t looked like a team that would go all the way. With a net run rate of -1.011 and just 3 wins under their belt, the season is almost as good as over for the Renegades. They will, however, would be looking to end on a high and are coming off a solid 7-wicket win against the Adelaide Strikers Women. After restricting the opposition for just 122-7, the Renegades chased down the target in just 17.3 overs.
Lizelle Lee and Sophie Molineux have been the regular performers for the Renegades at the top and they would be banked on to do the job again. It will be interesting to see though if the likes of Josephine Dooley, Courtney Webb, and captain Amy Satterthwaite can put up a better show.
On the bowling front, the team has not been penetrative enough. Lea Tahuhu, Sophie Molineux, and Molly Strano have been decent but have not been able to provide crucial breakthroughs. Meanwhile, Carly Leeson, Ella Hayward, and Makinley Blows have failed as the supporting bowlers and regularly leaked runs. They could have a hard time against a strong batting side like Sydney Sixers.

The pitch at the North Sydney Oval in Sydney is generally quite good for bating. In the first half, especially, the ball comes on nicely to the bat. Seam bowlers will have a tough time at the start but spin bowlers should find some purchase in the middle overs. In fact, their role could be quite crucial on this pitch.
The weather for the day of the match is expected to be windy and cloudy so that can assist the seam bowlers. There are minimal chances of rain and we should get a full game.
The North Sydney Oval has proven to a venue where batters generally make merry. Totals have generally been on the higher side this season with the highest one being 177-9 by Melbourne Stars Women. The team batting first in this match should feel safe if they get a total in the range of 150-160.
Batting first has given rich dividends on this venue this year at the WBBL and the team winning the toss is hence likely to bat first.
Sydney Sixers Women and Melbourne Renegades Women have already clashed once earlier this season where the Sixers registered a comfortable 8-wicket win (DLS method). While Sydney has suffered poor form in recent weeks, they are the stronger side and should be able to dominate the Renegades again. That being said, the Renegades, despite their poor performance, have toppled big teams like Sydney Thunder. They have nothing to lose and can surprise the Sixers on their day. But looking at the overall balance and strength of both the teams, the Sydney Sixers start as favorites for this match.
We are backing the Sydney Sixers Women as the winners of this clash.
