Although they managed to finish their campaign above Brisbane Heat in the points table, they lost both their games against Brisbane Heat in the league stage.

Alex Hales has been phenomenal for this team and was the second-highest run-getter of the last season and highest run-getter for the Thunder. The team also has experienced Usman Khawaja as a captain and Ben Cutting as an all-rounder who will be key to the success of Sydney in this season. The overall squad is looking well balanced in batting but needs to focus more on the bowling department.
