A crushing defeat in the last game has sent both the Sydney Thunder and the Perth Scorchers back to the drawing board.
While the men in Orange might look at their humbling defeat in the hands of the Strikers as nothing more than a reality check, the Thunder are in a bit of a strife though. If they are to progress through to the qualifiers without expecting any favours from the other teams, they may have to win all the remaining matches to push for a spot in the final four.
But they have to take care of the men from Western Australia, who’re licking their wounds after the drubbing in Adelaide. The Sydney Thunder know they’ve the edge over the Scorchers in the last five games and will be looking to run down to the field on Monday with an entirely optimistic approach.

Sydney Thunder played their most recent match on New Year’s Day and have had almost a week’s time away from the game
And they needed a break this long to recover from the worrying form slump and start all over again. With just one win in six games so far, they’ve had a shocker of a season so far.
Their batting unit, which looks their stronger suit, is performing below par and their batters have not been able to score freely and quickly. With only two scores over 160 in six games, their batting needs to get its act together and find a way to score a competitive total that their bowlers will be confident of defending.
On the bowling front, Daniel Sams has managed to reprise his excellent performance with the ball from last season. With 11 scalps in the tournament so far, he tops the list of bowlers with most wickets, but he would expect fellow pacers Nathan McAndrew (1 wicket in 6 games) , and Gurinder Sandhu (1 wicket in 3 games) to chip in too. Tanveer Sangha has managed to dry up the runs but has not picked up wickets regularly.
And Chris Green, who was sensational last season when he picked up 14 wickets with an economy rate of 6.16, has not been amongst the wickets this time around.
Cameron Bancroft (wk), Alex Hales, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Oliver Davies, Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, Nathan McAndrew, Chris Green (c), Gurinder Sandhu, Liam Hatcher, Tanveer Sangha.

Having gone into the game undefeated, the Scorchers would have fancied a comfortable win against the underperforming Strikers. But it wasn’t to be.
The Strikers ran amok and dominated proceedings with an all-round performance to hand the Scorchers a crushing defeat- their first of the season. That said, the Scorchers have barely looked in trouble this season despite losing their captain Ashton Turner to a serious injury and a couple of key players like Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green due to international commitments.
Before their misstep against the Strikers, the men in Orange were too hot to handle for the other teams. They barely broke a sweat and cruised through to wins no matter the challenge, whether it was setting up totals or chasing down scores.
Their humbling defeat at the hands of Strikers will put them in good stead going forward. A win against Thunder will help them put their campaign back on track and draw them just one-point shy of table-toppers Brisbane Heat, who remain the only undefeated side in the tournament.

Rain is forecast for the day so it could turn out to be a truncated game. The pitch here is not a batting paradise so batters will have to assess the conditions and try and get up to a total above par. 203 is the highest total posted here and the infamous 15 by the home team the lowest.
The Sydney Showground Stadium, also known as the Spotless Stadium, is hosting this match. The home team lost all their scheduled matches here last season and would be hoping for a turnaround after their match against the Sixers here earlier this season was called off.
In the 37 BBL matches to have happened at this stadium, the team batting first has registered 18 wins and the chasing teams has won as many, which goes to show that toss doesn’t have a big say here. But the Scorchers have been more convincing chasing, so they may not think twice to send the Thunder batsmen in if the bat flip goes in their favour.
The Scorchers will be hoping to put that Adelaide drubbing behind them and want to get back to winning ways with a thumping win over the Sydney Thunder, who look far from convincing this season.
We are backing Perth Scorchers as the winners of this contest.
