Titans finished at the top in the points table last year with 4 wins from 7 matches. They didn’t start as a champion team this year losing 3 of their batters for just 1 run and at 41 runs finding half of their team back in the pavilion.

Last year, the only win for the Knights came against North West. And while they kicked off this season with a game against North West, it ended in a draw.

The rain allowed for only 28 overs in the 4-day Test and the Knights’ batters didn’t get any game time. The last time the Knights and Titans went head to head, the latter won by an innings and 153 runs.

All eyes will be on Dean Elgar, the captain of the Proteas Test side who was out for a duck in the last game. He needs to lead the batting effort as an opener and experienced Test player.

The Titans' bowling attack looks in good form and will pose a challenge to the Knights, who they’ve dominated in previous meetings.

Titans Preview

There have been a few changes to the squad with Dewald Brewis coming in and Henrich Klaasen and Chris Morris going out. While opening batsman Mokoena is also not part of the squad anymore, Titans seem to have found the right for the opening spot.

Neil Brand’s unbeaten 66 runs knock at the top in the last match showed great promise. This innings came in the midst of a batting collapse. Sibonelo Makhanya is made captain this year. Just like Elgar, the skipper was also out for a duck and will be expected to turn things around for his team.

He was the top batsman for Titans in their last encounter against Knights with a 111 runs knock at number 5. With no Klaasen in the mix this year, there is a greater responsibility on batting all-rounder Theunis de Bruyn in the middle order.

Donovan Ferreira and Musa Twala are the two new wicket-keepers that have made it to the Titans squad this season. Twala along with Neil Brand added 89 runs for the 6th wicket.

The batting lineup is deep with D Galiem and Corbin Bosch also striking it well in the lower order. In the bowling department, watch out for Junior Dala, Simon Harmer, and Aaron Phangiso.

Titans Predicted Playing XI:

Dean Elgar, Neil Brand, Sibonelo Makhanya (c), Theunis de Bruyn, Jiveshan Pillay, Musa Twala (wk), Corbin Bosch, Dayyaan Galiem, Ayabulela Gqamane, Simon Harmer, Junior Dala

Knights Preview

Even in their only win from last season, only a couple of batsmen shined and led the team to a match-winning total. And both of them, skipper Pite van Biljon and Patric Kruger will need to deliver in this game.

Jacques Snyman, a crucial batting all-rounder for the Knights wasn’t part of the XI in their last game. Opening batsman Matthew Kleinveldt might have a new partner this time around.

The Knights need to field their best XI coming here. Raynard van Tonder is another key batsman who should be included in the XI for this game. If not Snyman, Isaac Dikgale can be seen opening the innings for the Knights alongside Kleinveldt.

While Biljon, Kruger, and Botha are the key players in the middle order, the all-rounders in this squad allow for more options in the batting department. With Aubrey Swanepoel and Migael Pretorius in the side, the batting lineup can be deep and the Knights can hope for an improved batting performance.

Mbuelo Budaza will be the impact bowler to watch out for in this side. While Budaza and Coetzee lead this bowling attack, the all-rounder Partick Kruger has proven to be a wicket-taker for the Knights.

Knights Predicted Playing XI:

Matthew Kleinveldt, Isaac Dikgale, Pite van Biljon (c), Gihahn Cloete (wk), Patrick Kruger, Patrick Botha, Aubrey Swanepoel, Gerald Coetzee, Nealan van Heerden, Mbulelo Budaza, Nhlakanipho Mpungose

Weather Conditions

The pitch at SuperSport Park in Centurion is one of the quickest in South Africa. The batters would enjoy playing their strokes freely as the ball comes nicely onto the bat. The pacers would pose a tough challenge on Day 1 with the new ball. The weather is expected to be mostly sunny with a high of 30 degrees Celsius.

Venue Details

SuperSport Park in Centurion has hosted 27 Test matches so far. And the average 1st innings total at this venue is 329 runs while the average 2nd innings total is 321 runs. It is almost little to no difference between the average scores of the first two innings of a Test match here. The pitch can be expected to stay good for batting for all 4 days and Titans can score high even in the 3rd and 4th innings

Toss: To Bat

The stats are evenly divided between teams batting first and second in Tests at this ground. However, given how good the pitch is for the first two innings, teams would be comfortable batting first.

Titans will have the home advantage though they will be aware of the collapse in their last match. There is a need for a quick turnaround and the hosts have the right personnel for this task. They also have a good record against the visiting Knights in the head-to-head stats. Overall, the Titans seem to have a slight edge over the Knights in every department and will start as favorites in our match prediction.

Our prediction is for Titans to win the match
