The league stage has been done and dusted and in the 1st Semi-final of the Momentum One Day Cup 2019 table toppers Titans would take on Cape Cobras. Titans after looking in great form since the start of the season looked little edgy in their last two games as they lost out against Lions and Knights. Cape Cobras too lost two out of their last three games after having made it to the knock out stage of the tournament.

In the league stage of the tournament Titans had won both the games against Cape Cobras comprehensively by 83 runs and 10 wickets. But it will be anybody’s game in a high pressure knock-out scenario and it will be interesting to see which of these sides is able to hold into its nerves.

Titans Preview

Titans have by far looked the best side of the season. Barring the last two games when they tried experimenting with their squad Heinrich Klaasen’s side looks very strong going into the 1st semi-final of the season with the return of its key players.

Theunis de Bruy announced his form with a blistering 183 run knock in the last game. Jonathan Vandiar also played well. The return of Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar will add strength to the batting line-up going into this game. Farhaan Behardien is looking good toward the end of the innings and people like Heinrich Klaasen and Tony de Zorzi will surely test the Cape Cobras bowlers in the next game.

Though they bowled poorly in the last game the return of Junior Dala makes all the difference. He is the highest wicket taker for the season has taken 9 wickets in the last two games. Tabraiz Shamsi and Chris Morris shall also come back into the side and the likes of Marcello Piedt, Corbin Bosch and Elgar make the bowling attack quite strong for the all-important semi-finals.

Titans Predicted Playing XI:

Heinrich Klaasen (c), Theunis de Bruy, Dean Elgar, Tony de Zorzi, Aiden Markram, Junior Dala, Chris Morris, Tabraiz Shamsi, Marcello Piedt, Corbin Bosch, Farhaan Behardien

Titans Actual Playing XI:

Sizwe Masondo, DW Steyn, Theunis de Bruyn, JD Vandiar, Junior Dala, Aiden Markram, Farhaan Behardien, Tony de Zorzi, Tabraiz Shamsi, Corbin Bosch, Dean Elgar

Cape Cobras Preview

Dane Piedt’s side has had a mixed bag of a season where they have gone from a win to a loss and again recovered form to win. This has been the story for the side and now as they are in the semi-finals they would want to put up their best performance.

Janneman Malan and Pieter Malan the two brothers have been good throughout the season especially the former who is the top run getter. Aviwe Mgijima and Kyle Verreynne make a strong middle order and with the experienced JP Duminy available for selection the side would hope to do well in the next game with finishers such as Vernon Philander and Dane Piedt on their squad.

Rory Kleinveldt has bowled superbly this season and even bagged a five wicket haul. Vernon Philander would look to use all his experience in the next game. Dane Piedt and Akhona Mnyaka are also in good form and this lends good strength to their bowling line-up going into this game.

Cape Cobras Predicted Playing XI:

Janneman Malan, Pieter Malan, JP Duminy, Aviwe Mgijima, Kyle Verreynne (wk), Dayyaan Galiem, Vernon Philander, Rory Kleinveldt, Dane Piedt (c), Akhona Mnyaka, Tsepo Ndwandwa

Cape Cobras Actual Playing XI:

Jean-Paul Duminy, Zubayr Hamza, Tsepo Ndwandwa, Rory Kleinveldt, Dane Paterson, Vernon Philander, Akhona Mnyaka, Pieter Malan, Aviwe Mgijima, Janneman Malan, Kyle Verreynne

Weather Conditions

It is expected to be a sunny day with slight cloud cover at Centurion on March 27 which should make it a good surface to bat on. The bowlers would get some bargain from the wicket in the early overs but the pitch should become better as the game progresses. Team batting first would eye a score of 300 runs.

VENUE

SuperSport Park, Centurion is one ground that fast bowlers have always enjoyed bowling. There is good pace and bounce on the track which assists them. But batsmen also enjoy when the ball comes into the bat and lightening outfield also makes it a good ground for limited overs cricket.

Toss: WIN the toss, BOWL First

SuperSport Park, Centurion is a good hunting ground for the fast bowlers. There is early movement off the surface which makes it tough for the side batting first. Teams batting second have won twice in three games this season and we believe the captain winning the toss would have a bowl on this surface.

It is the big semi-final and high pressure game for both the sides. Titans have topped the table but come into this game after two consecutive defeats. Cape Cobras on the other hand have suffered from the problem of inconsistency all throughout the season. Titans have a stronger batting line-up and good variety in their bowling which should make them favorites for the next game.

We are backing the Titans for the win!
