32 games later some of which have been very competitive we have our two finalists for the 2019 season of Momentum One Day Cup. The good news is the two best teams Titans and Dolphins have qualified for the final. Titans defeated Cape Cobras by 5 wickets in the 1st semi-final while Dolphins defeated Warriors by 7 wickets in a one-sided game to get into the final.

In the group stages the sides had shared the honours winning a game each that the two sides played. It is a big final and pressure would be on both the camps and it would be interesting to see which team is able to hold on to its nerves and win the high voltage contest.

Titans Preview

On the day of the semi-final against Cape Cobras, Dean Elgar’s side showed why they topped the table in the group stages. The won the game comprehensively never letting their opponents have the edge. This win came after the side had lost two consecutive games. They would want to bring the same form into the final.

Theunis de Bruyn and Tony de Zorzi have done well in the season and at No. 3 Jonathan Vandiar looks rock solid. Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar bring their experience to the batting making it strong while Farhaan Behardien and Corbin Bosch who shared an unbeaten 125 run stand in the last game are the perfect finishers for the side.

With 26 wickets this season Junior Dala is looking unstoppable. He has 15 wickets in the last three games this season. The return of Dale Steyn adds punch to the bowling attack. Dean Elgar and Markram are also bowling well so far in the season and this makes them a tough bowling attack to score against.

Titans Predicted Playing XI:

Dale Steyn, Dean Elgar (c), Jonathan Vandiar, Farhaan Behardien, Theunis de Bruyn, Corbin Bosch, Aiden Markram, Tabraiz Shamsi, Junior Dala, Tony de Zorzi, Sizwe Masondo (wk)

Titans Actual Playing XI:

Sizwe Masondo, DW Steyn, Theunis de Bruyn, JD Vandiar, Junior Dala, Aiden Markram, Farhaan Behardien, Tony de Zorzi, Tabraiz Shamsi, Dean Elgar, Matthew Arnold

Dolphins Preview

Khaya Zondo’s team would be in great frame of mind after having demolished Warriors in a one-side semi-final. They bowled out their opponents for mere 119 runs and chased down the total equally impressively in less than 20 overs.

Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Sarel Erwee their openers are in great form having more than 800 runs between them this season. Their middle order comprising of Senuran Muthusamy, Dane Vilas and Khaya Zondo have done equally well in the season and look in great shape ahead of the final. With Sibonelo Makhanya and Andile Phehlukwayo occupying the lower middle order they have great batting strength going into this game.

Their bowlers had a gala evening in the last game with Keshav Maharaj picking 4 wickets. Eathan Bosch and Daryn Dupavillon opened the bowling impressively giving away nothing to the opponents. Andile Phehlukwayo also bowled well and they would want to carry this momentum into the next game.

Dolphins Predicted Playing XI:

Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Dane Vilas (wk), Prenelan Subrayen, Andile Phehlukwayo, Keshav Maharaj, Khaya Zondo (c), Sibonelo Makhanya, Daryn Dupavillon, Sarel Erwee, Senuran Muthusamy, Eathan Bosch

Weather Conditions

It is expected to be slightly overcast at Centurion on 31st of March. There are also chances of rain interrupting the game. Being lively pitch fast bowlers are likely to get good assistance. On the big day of the final both the sides would have pressure on their shoulders and a score of 270-280 runs would be a good one to fight.

VENUE

SuperSport Park, Centurion is a great track to bowl for the fast bowlers. The new ball tends to move from the surface and also in the air. Batting tends to get easy as the game progresses and the batsmen who get their eyes set score heavily on this track making it a good sporting wicket.

Toss: WIN the toss, BOWL First

In the four games played at Centurion this season the team batting second has won on three occasions. There is early assistance for the bowlers and no team would like to let that opportunity go. The captain winning the toss should logically ask the opponents to bat and try picking up early wickets.

It is the big final of the season and both Titans and Dolphins have done well. Titans won 6 out of their 10 games in the season while the Dolphins were equally good with 5 wins. Going by the form it is difficult to choose between these two sides with Dolphins also being the defending champions. But Titans would be slightly ahead of them thanks to a better bowling attack they have and are favorites to win this edition of the Momentum ODI Cup.

Back the Titans for the win and to become Champions of the Momentum Cup 2019 Season!
