Trinbago Knight Riders must have expected a turnaround as CPL moved to Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. There was nothing as a home advantage for the Knight Riders as the batting order continued to disappoint.

Every loss from here onward will hurt Trinbago’s chances of making it to the playoffs. The same goes for Guyana Amazon Warriors who have only 1 win from 4 matches so far.

However, things seem to be brighter for the Warriors in comparison. Guyana’s batters show greater promise than the star-studded Knight Riders’ batting department.

Hemraj, Hetmyer, and Klaasen have been reliable batters in the GAW lineup and the recent performance from all-rounder Keemo Paul will boost their confidence in the lower order. For Trinbago, all of their big guns have failed to rise to the occasion, whether it is Colin Munro and Tim Seifert in the middle-order or the mighty finishers, Pollard and Russell.

Trinbago Knight Riders Preview

Trinbago completed a hat-trick of losses with their recent defeat against Barbados Royals. Pooran scored a fifty after being promoted to open the innings with Tion Webster.

However, the middle-order of Munro, Seifert, and Pollard collapsed with each of them scoring 1, 0, and 6 runs respectively. Most teams have benefited from winning the toss in CPL 2022, especially in the Saint Lucia leg of the season.

Trinbago Knight Riders were an exception as they continued to fail whether they bat or bowl first. Though teams may like to bowl first even at this venue in Trinidad, losing the toss cannot be an excuse for the home team to lose a match.

Pollard needs to step up himself and deliver an inspiring performance as he has done countless times in the past. Many teams have suffered a batting collapse and their lower-order batters have tried to salvage the innings taking the team to a par total.

There hasn’t been such an effort from the Knight Riders even with a highly experienced and talented lower order. There is no alternative to good cricket and that is what is lacking in the TKR batting lineup.

Trinbago Knight Riders Predicted Playing XI:

Tion Webster, Sunil Narine, Colin Munro, Tim Seifert (wk), Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard (c), Seekkuge Prasanna, Jayden Seales, Ravi Rampaul, Daryn Dupavillon

Guyana Amazon Warriors Preview

With two losses from 3 matches with one of them ending without a result, Guyana were at the bottom in the points table. A win in their last outing at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium helped the Warriors climb a few places in the table.

Though nothing exceptional from the batters, their performances were decent and good enough to win a match if the team were to chase a total. Hetmyer won the toss and elected to bat against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and lost the match while defending 162 runs.

He quickly corrected his mistake as he opted to bowl first after winning the toss in the very next game at the same venue. This time around his team chased down 162 with 6 wickets in hand. This will have boosted the team’s confidence going ahead in the league stage.

Guyana replaced Paul Stirling with Colin Ingram in their last match and Shai Hope was promoted to open the innings. None of these decisions made a big impact to the GAW batting and only the most reliable of all players, Klaasen and the skipper himself delivered on the promise. The bowling attack is very strong and has variety. Keemo Paul, Tahir, and Shamsi will pose a tough challenge to a struggling Knight Riders batting lineup.

Guyana Amazon Warriors Predicted Playing XI:

Chandrapaul Hemraj, Shai Hope, Colin Ingram, Shimron Hetmyer (c), Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Romario Shepherd, Odean Smith, Keemo Paul, Gudakesh Motie, Imran Tahir, Tabraiz Shamsi

Weather Conditions

Scattered thunderstorms are expected with a high of 32 degrees Celsius. If rain affects the match, the DLS method may come into play and then, the team batting first will have an edge. The pitch has something to offer for both batters and bowlers.

Venue Details

Over the years, Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain has witnessed many exceptional performances from the Knight Riders. The average score batting first at this venue is 150 runs. Of the 47 domestic T20s played here, 22 times teams have scored below 150 runs.

Toss: To Bowl

Both teams will be eager to bowl first at this venue. Setting a target at this ground is not easy. Unless the team batting first crosses 170-175 runs, their chances of defending the total will remain bleak. Given the form of TKR batters, GAW may still be comfortable batting first and setting a target for an out-of-form Knight Riders lineup.

The home advantage does not seem to be playing in the favour of TKR and with a consistently failing batting order, there is little to no confidence in their chances of winning. Guyana, on the other hand, have a few good batters in the middle and lower order and a great variety in the bowling attack. GAW will have an edge over the Knight Riders and will start as favourites to win this match.
