Trent Rockets would start their campaign in The Hundred 2022 as they take on the Birmingham Phoenix at their home ground. Both teams would look for a good start in the tournament. They had a good tournament last year where Birmingham Phoenix made it to the finals while the Trent Rockets reached the Eliminator game.
Birmingham Phoenix had won both the games between the two teams last year and they would like to take confidence from those wins. However, records would count very little as this is the start of a new season. Both the teams have some of the best players in the shortest format of the game and we expect this game to be a close contest that would test the skills and temperament of the players.
Lewis Gregory would be aiming for a good start at home. They had lost both their games against the Phoenix last year and he would look to break this jinx. Their players would have the crowds cheering for them and this is a big advantage for the team. The Phoenix would come hard on them, and Gregory would like his players to be on their toes and deliver the best in this game.
Alex Hales and Dawid Malan bring great skills to the table and the side like them to set the tone with a good partnership. In the middle order, Dawid Malan, Lewis Gregory, and Joe Root have vast experience and the side would need a good show from them. Tom Kohler-Cadmore adds the X-factor to their batting down the order and he would look to make quick runs with Daniel Sams and Colin Munro.
Rashid Khan and Luke Fletcher will have to play important roles with the new ball especially Rashid being the main bowler for the side. Samuel Cook had a good season last year and he would like to draw inspiration from those performances. They would also like to see tighter bowling from uke Wood, Sams, and Gregory in this game.

Moeen Ali would like to start from where the side had left last season. They had topped the points table but lost in the final against Southern Brave. They are a strong side with balance in their batting and bowling line-ups. The Rockets would be a tough side to beat on their home ground and Ali would look for a good show from his players.
Matthew Wade comes to the side and strengthens its batting at the top. He will have to deliver a good start with Will Smeed. Moeen Ali is a perfect No. 3 in this format, and he will look to build partnerships with the hard-hitting Liam Livingstone and Miles Hammond. Benny Howell, Tom Abell, and Chris Woakes make it a long lower middle order and strengthen the side’s batting.
Adam Milne had done well last season and he will look to strike early as he shares the new ball with Tom Helm. Imran Tahir is an experienced bowler, and he will have to keep the scoring under check in the middle overs of the game with Chris Woakes. Benny Howell and Moeen Ali complete a well-balanced bowling attack for the team.

The skies over Nottingham would be partly cloudy on August 6. The wicket is expected to slow, and this would make it challenging for the batsmen. Batters shall have to get their eyes set in to do well. The side batting first would aim to reach a score of 150 runs which would be good in these conditions.
Trent Bridge, Nottingham is a big ground hence which limits the boundary scoring opportunity. Fast bowlers do get the ball to move here in the early overs but the slowness in the surface makes it difficult for the batsmen. Spinners have enjoyed success at this venue as the ball can turn sharply here.
Three out of four games played last year were won by sides chasing the score. We had seen low-scoring affairs where the side chasing the score always has an advantage. It is a difficult track to score runs and this would be in the minds of both the captains at the toss. The side that wins the toss is likely to opt for bowling first.
It will be a battle of nerves for both sides as they look to start the season with a win. Trent Rockets have a strong batting line-up, but the side loses out on the bowling strength. Bowlers have won games at this venue and the hosts would need to have their bowlers in good form. The Birmingham Phoenix have depth in their batting and a strong bowling attack. This would put them slightly ahead in the contest.
