Trent Rockets would be taking on Welsh Fire in the 29th game of The Hundred, 2022 at their home ground. The Rockets who sit at the second spot on the points table come into this game with a loss against Southern Brave and they would look to get back to win here. The Welsh Fire lost against the Northern Superchargers in their last game in what has been a terrible season for the team.

Welsh Fire would be low on confidence. The side has lost all the seven games it has played, and the key players have failed to perform in the season. Trent Rockets on the other hand has lost only twice and have won all their games at this venue. It will be interesting to see if Welsh Fire can walk out of this tournament with their heads held high.

Trent Rockets Preview

Lewis Gregory’s side comes here with a 6-wicket loss against the Southern Brave. It was a rare bad day at the office for their batsmen as they could manage to put only 138 runs on the board. Gregory would like his players to return to form in this game. Their opponents are struggling, and the Trent Rockets skipper would look to exploit it.

Alex Hales and Dawid Malan have been in top form and the pair shall look to set up a big opening wicket stand in this game. The middle order is strong for the team with Gregory, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and Samit Patel in the team and these players have made their contributions. Colin Munro, Daniel Sams, and Tom Moores shall aim for quick runs down the order to put the side in a comfortable position.

Luke Wood and Sam Cook shall aim to trouble the Welsh Fire top order with the new ball as they bowled well in the last few games. Sams and Gregory are experienced bowlers, and the side would expect a good show from them. With Tabraiz Shamsi and Samit Patel in the mix, they have a strong attack.

Trent Rockets Predicted Playing XI:

Lewis Gregory (c), Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Colin Munro, Tom Kohler-Cadmore (wk), Tom Moores, Samit Patel, Daniel Sams, Luke Wood, Sam Cook, Tabraiz Shamsi

Welsh Fire Preview

It has been a tournament that Josh Cobb and his men would like to get over with. They went down in the last game against the Northern Superchargers by 6 wickets in their last game. It has been seven consecutive losses for the side and as they play their last game Cobb would like to avoid any further humiliation.

Joe Clarke and Tom Banton haven’t scored runs at the top and the side would expect them to come up with a good show in this game. Ben Duckett played a good knock in the last game, and he needs to build partnerships with Matthew Critchley and David Miller in the middle order. Leus de Plooy and Dwaine Pretorius must play strong hands down the order as their top order has been in poor shape.

Their bowling attack hasn’t had runs on the board to defend. The side would expect early wickets from David Payne and Jake Ball in this game. Pretorius is an experienced bowler, and he must do well in this game. Ish Sodhi, Cobb, and Critchley will have to bowl tight spells in the middle overs for the side to be in a good position.

Welsh Fire Predicted Playing XI:

Josh Cobb (c), Joe Clarke (wk), Tom Banton, Ben Duckett, David Miller, Dwaine Pretorius, Leus du Plooy, Matthew Critchley, Ish Sodhi, David Payne, Jake Ball

Weather Conditions

The skies over Nottingham would be slightly overcast on August 29. We expect the batting conditions to be good as the surface has been flat though fast bowlers have done well with the new ball. The side batting first would need 160 runs on the board to feel safe in this game.

Venue Details

Trent Bridge, Nottingham is one of the biggest grounds in the UK. We don’t see big scores here like at other venues. Fast bowlers get the ball to move but batsmen can play their strokes as the ball comes to the bat nicely. The large size of the ground also allows spinners to toss the ball up and get wickets.

Toss: To Bowl

In the games played here so far, we have seen a good surface. Batsmen have enjoyed the conditions and run chases have been easy. Setting up a total and defending it is always a big challenge in this format. Hence, the side winning the toss in this game shall look to bat first.

Welsh Fire is playing against the tide. Their performance with the bat and the ball has been extremely poor in this tournament. They have nothing to lose and shall look to play positive cricket in this game. The Trent Rockets have an excellent record at home. Their openers have been in great form. This will make them favorites in this game.
