Trent Rockets to take on Southern Brave in the 3rd game of The Hundred
We predict that the Trent Rockets will defeat Southern Brave.
The Trent Rocket will host Southern Brave at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. The third game of The Hundred is set to play on 24th July from 2:30 PM local time. Lewis Gregory who has recently made a debut for England against Pakistan will lead the Nottingham side while Jofra Archer to experience new responsibilities being captain of the Southern Brave team. Trent Rockets bench comprises 10 players who have experience of playing international cricket including Joe Root, Rashid Khan, and D’arcy Short. Nottinghamshire veteran Samit Patel is the oldest player amongst the squad. But his recent performance for Notts will be the exact thing Rocket will be needing to start on a winning note. Rockets suffered a setback when in-form Pakistani bowler Wahab Riaz had to leave the UK following Visa issues. South African bowler Merchant de Lange has joined the Rockets camp prior to Riaz’s departure.
Southern Brave are looked at as the favourites to win the Hundred. They have three foreign players at their service - Devon Conway, Quinton de Kock, and Colin de Grandhomme. De Grandhomme recently signed for the Southern Brave after Andre Russell couldn’t travel due to international commitments and Guyana being put on the red list by the UK Government. Ex England coach and Zimbabwe international Andy Flower has been placed in charge of the Rockets. Southern Braves have given the same role to Mahela Jayawardene. Jayawardene has won 3 IPLs while coaching Mumbai Indians with two back to back titles.
Lewis Gregory has 9 more internationals to choose excluding him. The Rockets have one of the most experienced teams. D’arcy Short and Alex Hales are set to open for the Rockets. Alex Hales, who was ignored for the Pakistan series, has played 60 T20Is for England scoring 1644 runs at a strike rate of 136. He has 55 sixes on record for England, exactly what might prove costly to the Southern Brave side. World no 1 T20Is batsman Dawid Malan will add the fireworks to the top-order. Malan had an off series against Pakistan. He scored 101 runs in 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is (68*, 0, 0, 1, 1, 31). But being world number one means the Braves shouldn’t take him lightly. Joe Root is available for the selection before he leaves for the test series against India.
Skipper Lewis Gregory will team up with Samit Patel in the middle order. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Samit Patel is in great touch with 305 runs at a strike rate of 134.95 and 15 wickets at an economy rate of 6.66 in Vitality Blast for Nottinghamshire. It’s not only number 1 batsman but number 2 bowler and Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan is available for the Rockets this season. Khan has 371 wickets in 267 T20s across different T20 leagues in the world with an economy rate of 6.28. The Rockets are lucky to land Sam Cook in their squad. The Essex player has taken 20 dismissals in 13 Vitality Blast games at an average of 18.25. It will be interesting to see who the Rockets choose as a third pacer between Timm van der Gugten, Marchant de Lange, and Mathew Carter
Key Players: Rashid Khan, Alex Hales, Lewis Gregory.

The favourites of the tournament have ample of big hitters and all-rounders in the squad. Devon Conway and James Vince will open the Brave’s innings. James Vince has 365 runs in 10 outings for Hampshire with a strike rate of 140.92 and a century. Conway who made his debut last year is averaging 50 plus in all the formats. His average is 59.12 in 14 T20Is. Forget that! He has accustomed himself to the English conditions. His last 10 knocks for Somerset includes 70*, 88, 45, 81*, 53, 51*. One can only imagine how the start of Brave’s innings is gonna look like.
Alex Davies will take the keeping gloves in absence of Quinton de Kock. Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills, and Chris Jordan are going to make it hard for the Rockets to bat in crunch situations. Danny Briggs will face competition from Craig Overton to get a pass into the squad. The Brave's are lacking spinners. While Rockets have Rashid Khan and Samit Patel, it looks like Brave will go ahead with Max Waller.

The pitch is bliss to batsmen. The highest ODI score is an example of that. THe dew factor helps the team batting first. It gets difficult to control the ball in the second innings. The weather will be cloudy throughout the day. The temperature will vary between 15°C to 21°C. The wind will be blowing at 20 km/h. It will be a bit humid between 69 to 85 per cent. Showers are expected in the evening.
The venue for this match is Trent Bridge, Nottingham. It has a capacity of 15,350 spectators. Trent Bridge is home to Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club and has been an international cricket venue since 1899. So far 63 Tests, 49 ODIs and 12 T20Is have been played here. The venue is famous for hosting the ODI between England and Australia where England went on to score 481 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.
The ground has defended more targets than the chases. In T20Is the team batting first has won the matches on 7 occasions compared to 5 in batting second. Therefore, the team winning the toss should bat first. In domestic T20s, the team batting first has seen victory 29 times out of 50 occasions.
On one side the Trent Rockets have the experience while on the other side Southern Brave have the match-winners who have proved themselves in the shorter format all over the world. Rockets have the advantage of the home ground along with the availability of all the first-team players. The Braves will miss the presence of Quinton de Kock.
We predict that the Trent Rockets will defeat Southern Brave.
