It's been two months, and in the meantime the cricketing public of Australia have been treated to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Big Bash League, not to mention a one-sided Women's Ashes, but it is officially time for the return of the One-Day Cup!
We are already 14 matches into the tournament and this game signals a race of seven games with teams jostling for position and hoping to slot into the top two places ahead of the final on March 1st.
Ahead of the resumption, South Australia lead the charge on 16 points but all six states have already experienced at least one defeat and have won at least one match. And although Tasmania and New South Wales are in the bottom half of the table, they both have three games remaining, which represents a game in hand on the other four teams, so they are in the conversation for a top two finish.
However, games in hand will count for nothing if the victories do not arrive and whoever loses this game will have a very tough uphill climb to get into the top two after this fixture.

Tasmania come into this game in fifth place in the table and without a few of their regular players due to international call-ups and franchise tournaments elsewhere in the world!
Left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann is in Sri Lanka, weaving a web of trouble for the home batters and Beau Webster is quickly establishing himself as a player comfortable at international level.
Tasmania will also be without Mitchell Owen who starred during the 2024/25 Big Bash League, not only winning the tournament with Hobart Hurricanes but also finishing as the highest run scorer. But such was his impact that he is now plying his trade in the SA20!
We expect Gabe Bell to come in at the top of the order whilst the bowling attack is likely to be led by Tom Rogers and Billy Stanlake.

Like their opponents, New South Wales will not have the same XI out for this game who represented the state in their last game in the One-Day Cup back in November. They will be without 19 year old Sam Konstas who batted at number three in the last match and has since represented his country at the Boxing Day Test, attacking Jasprit Bumrah with a full range of shots!
We expect Daniel Hughes to come into the team in Konstas' place and, although the opener does not have quite the same range of strokes and unashamedly attacking intent, he has had one of the best 12 months of his life in Australian and English domestic cricket and will be a more than adequate replacement.
Nic Maddinson, Oliver Davies and Moises Henriques make up a solid middle-order with spinner Tanveer Sangha alongside Liam Hatcher likely to be the biggest threats with the ball

After a hot and humid day in Launceston on Tuesday, Wednesday is set to be calmer, cooler and less humid. The temperature will be up in the mid-early twenties across the whole game with cloud cover lessening as the match progresses.
The University of Tasmania Stadium is a venue where the bounce is true but there is often some green on the wicket for the pace bowlers to exploit. A par score will likely be around 290-300 on a pitch which is not expected to take a huge amount of turn.
This might be a tough decision for the captains as Tasmania's only win came when bowling first whereas New South Wales won after batting first. The weather looks more likely to make the conditions bowler-friendly early on so we predict both skippers will choose to bowl first.
Neither team will be at their strongest for this game and Mitchell Owen and Sam Konstas are particularly tough players to replace. In Daniel Hughes, New South Wales have stronger players waiting in the wings so we expect to see them come away from Launceston with the victory.
We are backing New South Wales to win!
