Major League Cricket 2023 is shaping up to be an exciting and closely-contested tournament. Barring Seattle Orcas, no other team has been able to establish their dominance so far. Texas Super Kings started their campaign with a solid win, but slipped in their next match against Washington Freedom. Meanwhile, MI New York lost their first match, but have made a resounding comeback with a massive 105-run win. The two teams will now lock horns at Grand Prairie Stadium on July 18.
Texas Super Kings couldn’t have started their season in a better way – they beat Los Angeles Knight Riders in the inaugural match of the tournament by 69 runs. Their next match against Washington Freedom turned out to be a close affair, which they lost by 6 runs, despite some late blitz by Dwayne Bravo (76* off 39 balls).
The Super Kings have a stable lineup and have most bases covered. In Faf du Plessis and Devon Conway, they have two solid and in-form openers who can play the long innings. David Miller provides stability in the middle-order while Mitchell Santner and Dwayne Bravo are handy finishers.
The Super Kings’ top and middle-order failed in their last match in their chase of 164 against Washington Freedom. Conway and Miller had both struck fifties in the first game and we are expecting a substantial contribution from either of these two in this match. Du Plessis has had two failures, but it would be prudent to back him to deliver in this contest.
On the bowling front, the team is quite sorted. Rusty Theron has been doing a fine job with the new ball. Young South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee too has done a fantastic job so far, taking 4 wickets in the two matches he has played. Mitchell Santner’s left-arm spin will be vital in the middle overs, while Bravo is again expected to deliver at the death.

After failing to win their first match in a high-scoring affair, MI New York have announced themselves in Major League Cricket with a thumping 105-run win over Los Angeles Knight Riders. Batting first on a two-paced wicket, MI posted 155-8 on the board, and then shot out the Knight Riders for just 50.
So far, MI’s top-order has failed to deliver, and it’s their middle and lower orders that have bailed them out. Opener Dewald Brevis’ failures have hurt them, but this slow pitch might not make things easier for the inexperienced young batter anytime soon.
Nicholas Pooran has scored of 40 and 38 in the two matches, and we are backing him to deliver in this game too. Another batter to keep an eye out for is Tim David. The hard-hitting finisher has remained unbeaten in the two matches he has played, with scores of 53 off 28 balls versus San Francisco Unicorns and 48 off 21 balls against Los Angeles Knight Riders.
In Kagiso Rabada and Trent Boult, Mi have two of the world’s most premier fast bowlers, which makes their bowling attack dangerous for any team. Both have taken 4 wickets apiece so far and will look to continue with their momentum. Ehsan Adil and Kieron Pollard were both miserly in the last match against the Knight Riders. This wicket is slowing down and suits these kinds of bowlers. We are expecting them to do well in this match as well.

The pitch at Grand Prairie Stadium is becoming a little two-paced as the tournament has progressed. It started off as a batting beauty, but is becoming harder to bat on it has become slower. Seamers will enjoy bowling on this surface, especially those who can bowl the slower balls and cutters smartly.
The weather in Dallas during the game will be hot and dry.
The average first innings score at the Grand Prairie Stadium is 172. The highest total posted here is 215-5 by San Francisco Unicorns against MI New York. However, the totals have started to come down as the tournament has progressed and a target of around 165-175 will be difficult to chase.
Grand Prairie Stadium has proved to be a batting first wicket. Out of the six matches played here, five have been won by the team batting first. The team winning the toss is almost certain to bat first.
Both Texas Super Kings and MI New York have won one match and lost one and are in third and second place, respectively, in the points table. The Super Kings have a much stronger batting unit on paper, while MI have the edge because of their fast bowling attack. Let’s not forget that Tim David is in outstanding form as a finisher and might have a big role to play here again. It should be a closely-contested contest, as we have two equally-matched teams here.
Back MI New York to emerge victorious in this game.
