UAE and Oman will lock horns in the Final at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha. UAE kicked off their Gulf Cricket T20I Championship campaign against Oman with a 22-run victory.
Oman have been in great form of late and won their last match by a huge margin against Kuwait to reach the Final. After their loss to Qatar, while chasing a small target, Oman’s batters have bounced back really well.
UAE on the other hand, suffered their first defeat of the season as they failed to chase down 151 runs against Bahrain in the last match. It was the first time in this tournament that the opening duo of UAE failed to deliver a good start.
It goes to show how crucial the opening partnership is for UAE’s batting success. Junaid Siddique was missing from their bowling attack in the last game. Oman has a great variety in the bowling attack and it has been successful consistently.
The United Arab Emirates will not be so happy with their recent performance with either bat or the ball. In the absence of Junaid Siddique, the bowling attack seemed to lack the X-factor.
After the openers failed to deliver a good start, the middle order never took off and the batters struggled to strike an impactful partnership. And this cost UAE the game as they finished with 147-7 while chasing 151 runs.
This was the first time in the tournament, the UAE were put to bowl first after losing the toss. Their batters had been impressive thus far and posted competitive totals giving their team a healthy edge in the contest.
Aryansh Sharma and Muhammad Waseem will be crucial as openers and are the key players in this batting order. Asif Khan and Vritiya Arvind have also been quite successful in scoring runs in the middle but have always been led by good scores from the openers.
Basil Hameed and Ali Naseer can also deliver crucial runs lower down the order, but they won’t be able to take the team to victory or a big total without one of the top-order batters making a big score. Junaid Siddique should be back in the side and lead the bowling attack. Jawadullah, Ali Naseer, and Zahoor Khan are other key bowlers in this attack to watch out for.
Aryansh Sharma (wk), Muhammad Waseem (c), Vriitya Aravind, Asif Khan, Ali Naseer, Basil Hameed, Nilansh Keswani, Mohammed Faraazuddin, Zahoor Khan, Muhammad Jawadullah, Junaid Siddique
Oman have a good chance of winning this championship here. They will be backing themselves to continue their form and spring a surprise against UAE in the final.
In their last encounter against UAE, Oman’s bowling was quite expensive, but their skipper played a brilliant 90-run knock in the run chase. At this point, Oman have got in-form batters in key positions in the batting order.
Naseem Khushi has replaced Jatinder Singh at the top and has looked in good touch. And while Kashyap Prajapati has got good starts, he is struggling to convert them into something big. Nevertheless, the middle order hasn’t let them down. Skipper Aqib Ilyas will be a key player at number 3 followed by Ayaan Khan and Rafiullah in the middle order.
It looks like a promising batting lineup with some in-form batters who have led Oman to 170+ runs total in the last two consecutive innings. And on top of that, the bowlers continue to be effective for Oman.
While Bilal Khan and Fayaz Butt continue finding wickets consistently, Ayan Khan and Rafiullah have also supported them well along with the skipper who’s been consistent with his economy.
There is great variety in the bowling attack and they will pose a tough challenge to the UAE. In addition to the key wicket-takers, Oman also have others who’ve stepped up and delivered breakthroughs and economic spells time and again.
Kashyap Prajapati, Naseem Khushi (wk), Aqib Ilyas (c), Ayaan Khan, Shoaib Khan, Rafiullah, Mohammad Nadeem, Mehran Khan, Shakeel Ahmed, Fayyaz Butt, Bilal Khan
It is a good batting wicket where players can score big once they’re set and time the ball well. However, it seems chasing something over 160 will not be easy on this surface. The weather will be clear with a high of 33 degrees Celsius.
West End Park International Cricket Stadium will be the venue for the Final of the Gulf Cricket T20I Championship 2023. Both teams have scored upwards of 170 while batting first on this ground and in this match, 170+ is what the team batting first should be looking for.
While it is a good wicket to chase a total, both teams have been impressive while batting first. They will be more comfortable going out and expressing themselves with the bat while counting on their bowlers to defend the score.
It will be a close contest between two well-deserving teams in the Final. On their way to the Final, Oman have found their touch and are now looking very competitive. UAE have been in great form throughout the tournament and need to recover from their recent loss quickly. While toss will play a role in this game and it will be a close contest, UAE will start with a slight edge in our match prediction.
