It is the 3rd game of the UVA Premier League T20, 2020 where the Mahiyanganaya Unilions would be up against the Wellawaya Vipers. The Vipers started the tournament on a high winning their first game in what was a great chase while the Mahiyanganaya Unilions also registered a convincing win where their bowlers set up a win with tight bowling.  

Both the side would go into this game with great amounts of confidence having already won their respective tournament openers. Sriyaan Chandimal’s side made a promising start to the tournament as they defeated the Badulla Sea Eagles by 8 wickets in a one sided game. They bowled well to keep the opponents to a low total and chased down the score in quick time. Chandimal would want his side to put up a similar show against the Wellawaya Vipers who also look in tremendous form at the moment. 

Kavidu Gunarathne looks in great form and scored 42 runs in last game in only 16 balls. He would be looking to provide a promising start in company of Hareen Silva. Hasanjith Munaveera and Malinda Lokundttige also showed class in the last game. With Manela Udrwatte, Sdnal Elwalage and Sriyaan Chandimal down the order they have a very strong batting line-up. 

Their bowlers would look to repeat the same kind of magic as they did in the last game. Sdnal Elwalage and Anurudda Rayapaksa where spot on with their line and length. The likes of Hasanjith Munaveera, Malinda Lokundttige and Chandimal shall have to bowl well against the strong batting line-up they would be up against in the game.

Wellawaya Vipers Preview

Pavan Edirisinghe would be excited with the performance of his team in the first game. After conceding a huge total his batsmen were clinical in the chase as they defeated the Monaragala Hornets by 3 wickets in an exciting game. Edirisinghe would be looking for an improved performance from his bowlers in the next game. 

Batting looks strong for the side as opener Chathura Manaranga scored 63 in the last game. He was well supported by Adithya Siriwardhana. Lahiru Maduwantha played a match winning innings towards the end. The side has got a strong batting line-up and shall look at Anjana Lakshan and Akila Dushyentha to do the big hitting in the next game. 

It is on the bowling front that the side will need to make improvements after having given away 203 runs in the last game. Anjana Lakshan, Akila Dushyentha and Anith Bandasa will need to come up with strong performances with the ball as they looked ordinary in the last game. Amila Thusara was the pick of the bowlers and will be looking to continue with the same form.

The conditions would be overcast at Badulla on June 30 and there are chances of rains during the game. The pitch has been a good one to bat on as the ball is coming onto the bat nicely. Bowlers need to be on the money to do well at this venue. The side batting first will have to target a score of 180 runs to feel safe on this track. 

Venue Details

UVA Badulla Cricket Ground, Badulla is a small ground compared to most of the other grounds in Sri Lanka. It has a quick outfield that helps the batsmen. Fast bowlers do get their early assistance from the surface but it is the spinners who have done well here in the past.
