United States Women and Zimbabwe Women will kick off the Women’s T20I Quadrangular Series in UAE on September 10. The other two teams in the series are United Arab Emirates Women and Thailand Women. USA Women haven’t played T20Is since October last year and are expected to be rusty. Zimbabwe Women, meanwhile, have had a great time in the shortest format recently and will begin as the favorites for this clash.
USA Women will be a little rusty as they haven’t played any T20Is for almost a year. Adjusting to the slow pitches in Sharjah won’t be an easy task for them. USA will be seeking to qualify for a first-ever Senior ICC World Cup and make history.
Sindhu Sriharsha who successfully captained USA to victory at the Americas regional qualifier last year in Mexico City will be leading the side in this series. The wicket-keeper batter will be the glue holding this batting unit together. Geetika Kodali will have a huge responsibility as the deputy. The team will miss the services of left-arm pace bowler Tara Norris and batter Jessica Willathgamuwa who are both unavailable.
This is a youthful team with as many as seven uncapped players.
Sindhu Sriharsha (C & Wk), Geetika Kodali, Anika Kolan, Bhumika Bhadriraju, Disha Dhingra, Gargi Bhogle, lsani Vaghela, Lisa Ramjit, Moksha Chaudhary, Preeti lyenger, Suhani Thadani
Zimbabwe Women have had a great time this year in T20s. They have won all of the last 5 T20Is they have played in 2022 and took the Capricorn Women’s Tri-Series, 2022. They also clinched an unofficial T20 series against South Africa Emerging Players Women 4-1 a few weeks back. This is a team that is in form and has been playing the format regularly this year.
Mary-Anne Musonda will captain the side again. The experienced campaigner is the most important batter of the side and is in great form, blasting two unbeaten fifties in her last two games against South Africa Emerging Players Women. Sixteen-year-old opening batter Kelis Ndhlovu is an exciting prospect at the top.
Left-arm medium-pacer Nomvelo Sibanda will be the bowler to watch out for Zimbabwe. She took her career-best figures of 5-14 earlier this year against Namibia Women and the pitches in Dubai should suit her bowling style.
Mary-Anne Musonda (c), Modester Mupachikwa (wk), Kelis Ndhlovu, Sharne Mayers, Josephine Nkomo, Precious Marange, Christabel Chatonzwa, Loreen Tshuma, Loryn Phiri, Nomvelo Sibanda, Esther Mbofana
The pitch at the ICC Academy Ground, Dubai tends to be slow. Batters will enjoy the first six overs, but after that, the surface will offer some grip. Seamers and spinners who vary their lengths should enjoy bowling here.
It will be hot and humid in Dubai with temperatures touching 30° at night.
The average score batting first at the ICC Academy Ground is 147. The highest score on the venue in T20Is is 189-5 by Afghanistan. A total of around 150 runs by the team batting first might be too much for the chasing side.
The team winning the toss will be looking to bat first.
USA Women have a young team that hasn’t played much cricket in recent months. They might be a little rusty and may take a little time to adapt to these conditions. Zimbabwe Women look to be in great touch and have plenty of match practice under their belt. They have a solid unit that has tasted success in recent times. Expect them to dominate this contest.
Zimbabwe Women are favorites to win this match.
