Vanuatu will aim for its first win as they take on Japan in the 9th game of the ICC Mens T20 World Cup East Asia Pacific Qualifier 2023. Vanuatu has struggled in the tournament and has been no match for its opponents. They went down against Papua New Guinea in the last game. Japan will be confident after their big win against the Philippines.

Vanuatu has lost all four games they have played. The side has underperformed both with the bat and the ball in this tournament, and they will need a special performance to defeat Japan. The Japanese side is unlikely to offer them any olive branches and look to continue with their good form.

Vanuatu Preview

Patrick Matautaava's side has had a poor tournament and has lost all hopes of qualifying for the ICC T20 World Cup. They lost to Papua New Guinea by 39 runs in the last game, with their batsmen failing again. The side will have to play for its pride from hereon, and Matautaava would expect a better show from his players.

Nalin Nipiko and Clement Tommy have failed at the top, and the side will need a strong show from them in this game. Jarryd Allan, Andrew Mansale, and Joshua Rasu must build partnerships in the middle order to take the side to a respectable total. Matautaava must use the long handle in the final overs and add quick runs with Ronald Tari.

The side will need good spells from Patrick Matautaava and Joshua Rasu at the start of the game. Darren Wotu and Nalin Nipiko must use the conditions well and trouble the Japanese batters in the middle overs. Simpson Obed and Williamsing Nalisa must deliver the goods in the supporting role.

Vanuatu Predicted Playing XI:

Patrick Matautaava (c), Nalin Nipiko, Clement Tommy, Andrew Mansale, Jarryd Allan (wk), Joshua Rasu, Ronald Tari, Jamal Vira, Simpson Obed, Williamsing Nalisa, Darren Wotu

Japan Preview

Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming's side continues with its good show in the tournament. They defeated the Philippines by 33 runs in the last game and have moved to the second spot on the points table. The side would aim for the top spot with a big win in this game. Their opponents aren't in good form, and Flemming would look to take advantage of it.

Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake and Alexander Shirai-Patmore will look to provide the side with a good start in this game. Kadowaki-Fleming, Sabaorish Ravichandran, and Ibrahim Takahashi are in good form, making the middle order strong. The side will look for a good show from Declan Suzuki and Reo Sakurano Thomas in the lower middle order.

Piyush Kumbhare and Reo Sakurano will look to bowl tight spells with the new ball and trouble Vanuatu's top order. Ravichandran and Ryan Drake have bowled tight spells, and they will look to continue with the same form. The side will also expect a good show from Takahashi, Suzuki, and Mian Siddique.

Japan Predicted Playing XI:

Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming (c), Alexander Patmore, Lachlan Lake, Ibrahim Takahashi, Sabaorish Ravichandran, Declan Suzuki, Reo Sakurano Thomas, Wataru Miyauchi (wk), Mian Siddique, Piyush Kumbhare, Ryan Drake

Weather Conditions

We will have hot and humid conditions. The wicket is flat, and batsmen can play their strokes freely on this surface. The side that bats first in this game shall need 170 runs on the board to feel confident.

Venue Details

Amini Park, Port Moresby, is a small ground with a fast outfield. It is a great venue for batsmen who can score runs in boundaries. Fast bowlers get the ball to move on a fresh wicket, but there isn't much for them on this surface. Spinners have to bowl tight lines as the park's small size makes it a challenge for them.

Toss: To Bowl

The wicket has been good to bat on, and defending a total on such tracks is never easy for any side. Most games have been won by sides chasing the score. Hence, we expect the side winning the toss to bowl first.

Vanuatu comes here with four consecutive losses. Their batsmen have been in poor form, and the side will need to bat well to put their opponents under pressure. Japan has been clinical in all its games. Their batting line-up has done well, giving them a big edge over Vanuatu.
