It is the last round of league games in the Australia Domestic One-Day Cup 2021 and Victoria would be up against South Australia at their home ground Junction Oval, Melbourne. Victoria suffered a crashing defeat in the last game against Western Australia and this would have surely hurt their confidence. South Australia too comes into this game after a massive loss against Queensland.

Both the sides have had a poor tournament so far and haven’t won a game yet. As they play the final game of the tournament they would like to bow out on a high. In the last five games played between the two sides South Australia has won four of them and this would give the side confidence. However it has been a poor run of form in both the camps and it would be interesting to see who among them finishes with a win this season.

Victoria Preview

Peter Handscomb’s side has been completely out of form in this tournament and they haven’t won a game yet. It yet another disastrous effort from the team they lost against Western Australia by 170 runs in a one-sided contest. They don’t have a good record against South Australia in the recent years and shall be looking to salvage lost pride with a win here.

Sam Harper has done well opening the batting and he would be expected to provide a good start alongside Marcus Harris who hasn’t scored many runs yet. Handscomb, Nic Maddinson and Matthew Short would have to stitch together important partnerships in the middle order. Their lower order hasn’t contributed much in this tournament and runs would be expected from Mackenzie Harvey and Will Sutherland.

It was an extremely poor show with the ball in the last game by Victoria and they would need early wickets from James Pattinson and Scott Boland. Sutherland did well in the last game but they would need good efforts from the likes of Jonathan Merlo and Jon Holland to win here.

Victoria Predicted Playing XI:

Peter Handscomb (c), Sam Harper (wk), Nic Maddinson, Marcus Harris, Matthew Short, Mackenzie Harvey, James Pattinson, Scott Boland, Jon Holland, Will Sutherland, Jonathan Merlo

South Australia Preview

Travis Head would be upset with the way his side has played so far in the tournament. They are out of the contention for the final and come here after a massive loss against Queensland. As the side brings an end to its campaign they would look to register a win in this game.

Harry Neilson and Jake Weatherald will have to provide the side with a good start here for them to win this game. Travis Head has been the only batsman who has shown consistency so far and needs to score runs in the middle order along with Alex Carey and Callum Ferguson. In Jake Lehmann and Samuel Kerber they have good hitters down the order and the side would expect runs from them.

On the bowling front Daniel Worrall looks in good form and the side would want him to strike early along with Spencer Johnson. Wes Agar needs to check his length and bowl tighter lines in this game. Corey Kelly, Head and Kerber would have to play good supporting act in the game for them to win.

South Australia Predicted Playing XI:

Travis Head (c), Harry Nielsen, Jake Weatherald , Alex Carey (wk), Callum Ferguson, Jake Lehmann, Corey Kelly, Spencer Johnson, Daniel Worrall, Wes Agar, Samuel Kerber

The skies over Melbourne would be mostly clear on April 08. The track has been a tough one to bat on in the two games that have been played with the ball moving off the surface and this is posing a challenge to the batsmen. The side batting first in this game would be happy with a score of above 280 on this track.

It will be a battle for pride as both the sides go out to play the last game of the season. Victoria has struggled with their form this tournament and would have to come up with an improved effort to win the game here. South Australia would take confidence from their good record against Victoria and their slightly better batting line-up would make them favorites here.
