The Warriors would be up against the defending champion Lions in the 22nd game of the CSA T20 Challenge 2022. It will be an important game for both sides as they sit in the lower half of the points table. The Warriors lost to the Rocks in their last game while the Lions also suffered a defeat at the hands of Titans.

The Warriors have lost the last four games in a row, and this would make it a very important game for the side and they have to make a strong comeback. Their bowlers have looked in poor shape and this is something the side needs to work on. As for the Lions, they have fared poorly even though they have a strong batting line-up.

Warriors Preview

It has been a downhill ride for Sinethemba Qeshile’s side. They had started the tournament well with a win but since then have lost four games in a row. It was a poor bowling effort from the side in the last game against the Rocks where lost from a winning position going down by 3 wickets. The side must regain its form to stay in the hunt for a place in the playoffs.

Matthew Breetzke and Wihan Lubbe are doing well at the top and the side would need a good start from them. JJ Smuts is an experienced player, and he would have to add runs with Tristan Stubbs and Lesiba Ngoepe who are in good form. Qeshile and Diego Rosier add to the side’s firepower with the bat and they must do well here as the bowling attack hasn’t complimented their batting strength.

Smuts has been good with the ball, but the rest of the attack was taken to the cleaners in the last game. Tiaan van Vuuren and Tsepo Ndwandwa must use the conditions well after their poor show in the last game. The side would look for good spells from Akhona Mnyaka, Lizo Makhosi, and Wihan Lubbe who bowled decent lines in the last game.

Warriors Predicted Playing XI:

Sinethemba Qeshile (c & wk), Wihan Lubbe, Matthew Breetzke, JJ Smuts, Tristan Stubbs, Lesiba Ngoepe, Diego Rosier, Tiaan van Vuuren, Akhona Mnyaka, Tsepo Ndwandwa, Lizo Makhosi

Lions-NO Preview

Malusi Siboto’s side needs to get its acts together in their title defense. The defending champions haven’t lived up to the reputation in the tournament and come into this contest with a 7-wicket loss against the Titans. The side would have to win this game to remain in the hunt for a berth in the next round.

Reeza Hendricks and Kagiso Rapulana batted well in the last game and the side would expect them to perform well here. Shane Dadswell, Joshua Richards, and Mitchell Van Buuren will have to stitch important partnerships in the middle order in this game. Sisanda Magala played well in the last game and he would have to add quick runs with Dominic Hendricks and Bjorn Fortuin.

Bjorn Fortuin and Malusi Siboto have looked good with the ball but the rest of the attack has been in poor form in the last couple of games. Codi Yusuf, Reeza Hendricks, and Magala will be required to bowl better lines in this game. The side would also expect to see Ayavuya Myoli do well in the supporting role and exploit the weakness in the Warriors’ batting.

Lions-NO Predicted Playing XI:

Malusi Siboto (c), Reeza Hendricks, Kagiso Rapulana, Shane Dadswell, Joshua Richards, Mitchell Van Buuren, Dominic Hendricks (wk), Sisanda Magala, Bjorn Fortuin, Codi Yusuf, Ayavuya Myoli

Weather Conditions

The skies over Port Elizabeth would be slightly overcast on February 19 and the conditions would be tough for batting. The wicket is lively, and bowlers are enjoying good returns from the surface. The side batting first in this game would aim to put 170 runs on the board.

Venue Details

St George's Park, Port Elizabeth has a quick surface where fast bowlers have enjoyed a good record here. The ball also comes onto the bat nicely and batsmen can play their strokes freely at this venue. Spinners don’t get much from the surface and have found it challenging to bowl here.

Toss: To Bowl

18 games have been played and only six games have been won by sides that have batted first. The wicket is tough to bat on early in the game and eases as the game progresses. The side winning the toss here would have little hesitation in bowling first.

Both sides have won a game each from the five they have played and there would be equal pressure on both camps to win this game. Warriors’ bowlers have looked rusty and they can least afford to bowl poorly in this game. The Lions have an experienced batting line-up and the top order is in good form and this would put them slightly ahead of the Warriors.
