Welsh Fire would be up against the Northern Superchargers at home in the 22nd game of The Hundred, 2022. For the Welsh Fire, this would be a game of pride in front of their fans after the dismal show the side has put up in the tournament. They went down against London Spirit in their last game. Northern Superchargers suffered a defeat against Manchester Originals in their last game.

Welsh Fire has been through a miserable run this season and the side has lost all the games it has played. Key batsmen and bowlers in the team have been down on their form and they must deliver the goods in this game. Northern Superchargers also haven’t fared as well as they would have liked and shall need to come up with a better show here.

Welsh Fire Preview

Josh Cobb perhaps has no answers to his side’s poor show this season. They have lost all their games and went down against London Spirit in their last game by 17 runs. Most of their batsmen have struggled this year and Cobb would like to see a better show from them. They would be playing for their pride as the side is already out of contention for a place in the next round.

Jacob Bethell and Joe Clarke have failed in most games and the side would expect a positive start from them in this game. The story has been the same in the middle order which has lacked consistency. The likes of Ben Duckett, Cobb, and David Miller need to play well. Their lower middle order has looked good, and the side would expect runs from Dwaine Pretorius, Leus du Plooy, and Matthew Critchley

Cobb and David Payne will have to come up with good spells with the new ball in this game to put the Superchargers on the backfoot. Pretorius has shown good form and he will have to play a key role in the middle overs along with Ish Sodhi. Critchley and Jake Ball shall aim to keep a check on the flow of runs in this game.

Welsh Fire Predicted Playing XI:

Josh Cobb (c), Joe Clarke (wk), Jacob Bethell, Ben Duckett, David Miller, Leus du Plooy, Matthew Critchley, Dwaine Pretorius, David Payne, Ish Sodhi, Jake Ball

Northern Superchargers Preview

Faf du Plessis’ side has lost all its hopes of making it to the Eliminator round after their loss against the Manchester Originals in the last game. The side suffered a 23-run loss in a high-scoring game where their bowlers failed to execute their plans. The Superchargers skipper shall aim for a better show in this game.

Faf du Plessis hasn’t been in the best of form this season and he will need to set up a big partnership with Adam Lyth at the top. David Willey, Harry Brook, and Adam Hose must set up partnerships in the middle order for the side to be in a comfortable position. They would also like to see runs from John Simpson, Dwayne Bravo, and David Weise down the order in this game.

Their bowlers have been in poor form, and this would worry the side. Willey and Ben Raine need to come up with a good show at the start of the game. Bravo is a seasoned campaigner, and he will have to show the way with Adil Rashid and Craig Miles. The side would also need good spells from Weise in this game.

Northern Superchargers Predicted Playing XI:

Faf du Plessis (c), Adam Lyth, David Willey, Adam Hose, Harry Brook, John Simpson (wk), David Wiese, Dwayne Bravo, Adil Rashid, Ben Raine, Craig Miles

Weather Conditions

The skies over Cardiff shall be clear on August 26 and we are likely to see a good surface. The ball is expected to come to the bat nicely which will allow batsmen to play their strokes. Fast bowlers will get the ball to move. The side batting first in the game would be happy to have 150 runs on the board.

Venue Details

Sophia Gardens, Cardiff helps fast bowlers with the new ball. Batsmen who get their eyes in have enjoyed a good record here in the past as the ball comes to the bat nicely. Spinners also do well here as the odd ball tends to stop on the batsmen and creates doubts in their minds.

Toss: To Bowl

In the past, we have seen big scores and the side chasing the score has an advantage as we had seen in the last game that was played. Hence, we are likely to see both captains choosing to bowl first on winning the toss and aim at dismissing the opponents for a small total.

It has been a disastrous season for Welsh Fire. Their confidence seems shattered as the side has lost all the games it has played. They need to win the mental battle first before winning it on the ground. The Northern Superchargers haven’t been consistent but have few of their batsmen in good form. This would put them ahead of Welsh Fire in this game.
